Description:

KLibido is a graphical Usenet file grabber for KDE. It supports multiple server, multiple download threads per server, queue management, .nzb files, etc...

Changelog:

* 27/Feb/2006: version 0.2.5 Release notes:

- New option: do not automatically resize columns in headerlist (and remember columns' sizes)
- New option: Do not automatically sort by subject (and remember the selected sort column)
- New option: remember order of columns in headerlists
- NEW: Show progress for decoding
- FIX: Don't crash while canceling articles during decoding (and really cancel the article)
- FIX: Cancel of update items while updating dbs now works
- new action: move to bottom of the queue
- FIX: correctly remember "maximized" status for main Window.
- NEW: Sort by number of articles in available groups list (i.e.: when subscribing to newsgroups)
- New shortcuts in headerLists: clear filter (Ctrl + C) and jump to the filter entry box (Ctrl + F)
- New option: don't show statusbar at startup
- NEW: French translation
- NEW: Progress dialog for db migrations
- FIX: Header dates now works for localized distributions as well
- NEW: During db migration/compact, articles are checked for consistency and discarded (KLibido should not crash anymore if there are bogus articles into dbs). A log of the discarded articles is created in the db dir (default: ~/klibido/db)
- Various bugfixes (see Changelog)

Any plan to merge your work into KNode? I agree that KNode is an excellent newsreader; it's just a bit lacking in the areas that KLibido happens to cover exactly. :)
Way to go, Bauno!

I think it would be too much pain...everything is different: interface, network code (KNode uses non-threadsafe KExtendedSocket whereas KLibido uses plain unix sockets), data structures...I wouldn't know where to start.

...that's why I wrote it ;-]

Thanks :)

Maybe you can start to write a ioslave to handle download, and leave the Gui to knode ?

- KNode GUI doesn't handle joining of binary articles.
- I'm quite sure a group with a million or more of headers brings KNode to its knees :)
- KLibido is multi-threaded, and I don't think threads can be used in IOSlaves (but I may be wrong here)

I would love to see more focus on managing queued items. Mouse support, drag and drop and easy movement on multiple selected items anywhere in the list order. Its especially important when you have 100+ tiems queued up and you want to change placement of lets say 30 in the list. Its painstaking to have to do it one by one or to select them all using shift one by one with the only option to move them to the top of the list.

This was also my biggest gripe with PAN for GNOME.

I am very happy someone has stepped up to make a binary newsreader for KDE. One was sorely lacking and would also like to point out, you are doing an awesome job so far.

Thank you.

You can drag and drop any number of items around...if you can't, either there's a problem with your installation, or I seriously messed up something

You can select select items with shift, ctrl, shift+ctrl (standard KDE multi select list), then D&D them where you want.

Yup, didn't like that, too :)

Thanks

Hi, I just installed klibido with the latest 4.x bdb (4.3.21) and it builds fine. After install, when I try to run it, it presents a dialog asking where I want to store things, I press OK, and it crashes, printing the following on the console:

Error opening versiondb
Error puttting version: Invalid argument
Error opening group db
KCrash: Application 'klibido' crashing...

help? Thanks!

KLibido doesn't seem to run with BDB 4.3. It's probably a minor problem, but I don't have time to investigate and fix it right now, I'm sorry. Either downgrade to BDB 4.2, or wait for version 0.2.1 (which will be released sometimes in January '05)

 make easier to find

by EThitop on: Dec 24 2004

I think you should add the word "usenet" or "news reader" in parenthesis in the title of this app to make it easier to find for those who are simply trying to locate a Usenet reader other than Pan or Knode. I was lucky to find this on freshmeat.net but I would have never found it on kde-apps.org w/out knowing the name of the project itself.

Thanks,
Erik

Ok, I will consider adding "usenet binary grabber" or something like that in the title of the next release...:)

Hi all I am new to linux and I was just woundering if this could be used in Suse Linux 9.2 Pro with KDE 3.3. And if it can how would I go about installing it.

Thanks for any help you may offer.

Of course.
Go to the homepage and look in the download section: you will find a link to the SuSE packages.

>And if it can how would I go about installing it.

You need to install uudeview and db version 4 (they're on the SuSE CD, you can install them via Yast), then you can install the KLibido package (rpm -ivh KLibido-0.2.0...etc...)

You're welcome
