Description:

KLibido is a graphical Usenet file grabber for KDE. It supports multiple server, multiple download threads per server, queue management, .nzb files, etc...

- New option: do not automatically resize columns in headerlist (and remember columns' sizes)
- New option: Do not automatically sort by subject (and remember the selected sort column)
- New option: remember order of columns in headerlists
- NEW: Show progress for decoding
- FIX: Don't crash while canceling articles during decoding (and really cancel the article)
- FIX: Cancel of update items while updating dbs now works
- new action: move to bottom of the queue
- FIX: correctly remember "maximized" status for main Window.
- NEW: Sort by number of articles in available groups list (i.e.: when subscribing to newsgroups)
- New shortcuts in headerLists: clear filter (Ctrl + C) and jump to the filter entry box (Ctrl + F)
- New option: don't show statusbar at startup
- NEW: French translation
- NEW: Progress dialog for db migrations
- FIX: Header dates now works for localized distributions as well
- NEW: During db migration/compact, articles are checked for consistency and discarded (KLibido should not crash anymore if there are bogus articles into dbs). A log of the discarded articles is created in the db dir (default: ~/klibido/db)
- Various bugfixes (see Changelog)

This looks really good, like all the features that Knode has been seriously missing. In fact Knode is utterly lame here and it would be cool to either merge this or make it yet another application in KDE/Extragear if it's as good as it looks. The one thing I did not see was if it had yenc support.

Anyway, getting to the "but" of my subject... Why does your download link only offer an i386 RPM? I had to search for the source. Who cares if I can load an RPM? Especially since I'm running Gentoo on an AMD64.

Optimizations are nice. Who do you know running a 386 today? Use the source luke

KNode: allow me to disagree. KNode is, IMHO, an excellent newsreader. It's not a nttp file grabber, nor it wants to be.

Yenc: supported (klibido supports all encoding formats supported by UUenview)

Download link: Sorry, I was in a hurry and uploaded the RPM instaed of putting a link to the sf page...this should now be correct.

BTW, "i386" is just a convention...the rpm is in fact for i686 and above. And the program is untested with "gentoo like :)" optimizations (-O3 and such)

You may disagree of course. ;-) I'm not sure we dasgree that much. I like Knode, but when I'm looking where there are images posted in two parts and I just want to view them I think it should do that. I would agree it doesn't need to be able to grab videos, but it would be great to not have to duplicate a lot between them.

Anyway I want to try this app out but I'm running into something rather odd. First off, I use my system for work and it is amd64 so I go with standard -O2 optimizations. amd64 is already fast and testing how well ported gcc is can be left to others. ;-)

Here's what I'm getting. In the configure it dies...
checking for uudeview.h... no
configure: error: Error: uudeview.h not found!

I've emerged uudeview 0.5.20 and it seems very odd Gentoo would cause it to not install the header so I even went to the home page and got the tgz file and looked inside. Guess what? No uudeview.h!

Don't you just love it when they make your life easy? So what do I do to run this with the latest uudeview without a lot of hacking? ;-)

I've had a quick look at the online package DB of Gentoo, and it seems they have split the uudeview package in two parts. The library and includes should be in the "dev-libs/uulib" package. Let me know.

This is exactly what I was looking for, as BNR2 doesn't work on Linux/ AMD64 anymore - great stuff!!!

But it doesn't compile for me. First, it complains because it couldn't find some db headers (on gentoo, the headers are in /usr/include/db4.1, not just /usr/include). That was easy to fix, but now I get:

I see two problems:
1) ENOMEM undeclared: this is defined in errno.h, which is included by db.h, so this may depend on the first problem you've found. I don't now how you fixed it, but on Fedora, BDB's headers are in include/db4/db*.h, *all* symlinked in /usr/include
2) get_env not found. This is my fault, get_env() is present only on BDB >= 4.2. Since it's not a crucial function, I will make a 0.11 release shortly, which should compile correctly on db 4.x

OK, I fixed it (linking the db header to usr/include, adding asm/errno.h to the includes).

Really great stuff! A little unstable, but a great start nevertheless!

Okay call me stupid ... but I have an error saying it cant find uudeview.h anywhere. I have installed the latest uudevew and can use the commands in said package .... but apparently it can't find the header fiels? I have the uulib directory but where do I put it to be recognized?

You're probably missing the uudeview-devel package...You don't say what distro you're using, so I cannot help further :)

Oh ... im using Gentoo Linux. I emerged it ... as well as download the source from the web site. The web site doesnt have devel packages.

I got past that error, with emerging the package you described. But when I go to compile I get lots of errors like this on different source files and the compile fails...

nntpthreadsocket.h:66: error: ISO C++ forbids declaration of `Db' with no type
nntpthreadsocket.h:66: error: expected `;' before '*' token

It seems a problem with the Berkeley db includes...do db.h and db_cxx.h exists? Are they in /usr/include? If not, try to symlink them there. Here's how it's done in my distro:

/usr/include/db_185.h -> db4/db_185.h
/usr/include/db_cxx.h -> db4/db_cxx.h
/usr/include/db.h -> db4/db.h

OK - thanks again - I got past those errors by linking db_cxx.h. But now I get a few of these errors and it fails to compile...

Same problems of wsippel (see the thread above).On Gentoo errno.h isn't included...add it to the globals.h file, after '#include "db_cxx.h"', i.e.:

#include "errno.h"

I will try to address this in the 0.12 release (which shouldn't be too far away)

hi
i started with linux couple of days ago and just discovered this program. i would lve to use it but when i do a ./configure it tells me "configure: error: Error: uudeview.h not found!"

When i do a make install it tells me that there is no rules for "install".

I'm using mandrake 10.1
please help a big noob :)

You have /usr/include/uudeview.h and configure doesn't find it? Please check...

...As for kde 3.2: version 0.11 of klibido has problems with kde 3.2...try version 0.12, which I'm about to release.

If uudeview is installed, test it by entering uudeview and uuenview into a terminal both commands should print a short description.
Next step is to copy "config.h","libuu.a" "uudeview.h" and "crc32.h" files from "uudeviewxxx/uulib" to "/usr/local/include/".
