Virtuality

Theme/Style for KDE 4.0

Submitted:  May 3 2014

Description:

Before Apple shows their new stuff (and i\'ll be called a copycat ;-) and since Qupzilla is now Qt5 here

https://github.com/luebking/virtuality

For Qt4 & Qt5
No KWin decoration use the Bespin window decoration for now. They\'re \"compatible\" and i won\'t add a specific one for KWin 4

There are two scripts, run

./buildQt4.sh
and/or
./buildQt5.sh

----
It\'s not important and I can\'t really prove it, but the style is older than iOS7 or Win8 - first sketches date back to late 2009
It\'s mostly an extrapolation of the Bespin window decoration and stuff I did for BE::MPC

The background was to get away from the static UI concepts and their physical representation.

 Virtuality copy-paste bug

by MadAGu on: Aug 28 2014

Score 50%

Great job! keep going ;)

However, when I use virtuality, the following bug appears:

Open for example kate and dolphin

- write something on kate and paste it on the address bar of dolphin

- Copy the name of a folder and paste it on kate. It doesn't paste the name. If I use another theme engine the problem dissapears, so I guess it's something with virtuallity that causes this.

*Many* thanks for this notion.

This broke very recently and I had actually noticed the clipboard was broken, but misblamed an X11 update.

The bug seems somehow in Qt/QDesktopWidget which, when called "early" breaks eventhandling for the clipboard (a similar bug was fixed in Qt, 5 years ago, for additional QDesktopWidget instances, see https://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qt/commit/e83fce3f50f646fa1d3daf6dabffa47045290a44)

Hot-fixed with commit 06c9d85 in master.

Now I got to figure a reasonable way to get to the screen resolution differently ;-)

Many thanks again!

... and commit 7571f06 re-establishes resolution detection - did I thank you for this heads up yet? I would probably *never* have expected that sth. in virtuality broke the clipboard (and even if, bisecting would have taken much longer ;-)

Hahaha well I have to admit that the reason I sticked with KDE in the beggining was the Bespin because it was a different engine than the others.
And now virtuality I think that it is already the coolest thing arround ;).

If I find anything else I will let you know :)

 Config UI and windows decoration?

 by D-- on: Feb 7 2015

Score 50%

Hi, thank you for developing a Qt5 theme.

I just installed everything in a Plasma 5.2 system. I see no configuration GUI or windows decoration. Could you please confirm that this not an installation mistake on my part and that these things have not yet been developed?

There's a standalone config tool, just run "virtuality"
There's yet neither a deco (waited until KDecoration2 matured - i'll likely write it before April, though) nor a style kcm plugin (i'll have to lookup whether that has a stable ABI meanwhile ;-), no

 Problem desktop popup transparency

Working great in Plasma 5.2, thanks for your hard work! However, the desktop right-click menu is completely transparent (in the rest of apps it works ok). Is this a bug or an option that I need to turn off?

You probably also reported https://github.com/luebking/virtuality/issues/22

I've not installed plasmashell atm (had, laughed, deleted) and it conflicts w/ kde-workspace on archlinux.

I assume plasma sets the background role color to Qt::transparent to do its themed thing (and fails), but cannot make an informed statement atm.

I can probably check around easter, but you could try whether this is only an issue when inverting popups (that /is/ configurable in "virtuality config" ;-)

I'm not the guy of Github, but it seems he has the same problem as me.

Disabling the inverted popups didn't solve the problem. The color of the font and the color of the arrows indeed change, but the background remains transparent. It's not a big deal, because it only happens in the desktop, but I guess Plasma 5 is the culprit; too unstable yet.

However, the more I use Virtuality , the more I love it ;).
