Description:

QMPlay2 - Qt Media Player 2

QMPlay2 is a video and audio player. It can play all formats supported by FFmpeg, libmodplug (including J2B and SFX). It also supports Audio CD, raw files, Rayman 2 music and chiptunes. It contains YouTube and Prostopleer browser.

If you want to watch YouTube videos and use "youtube-dl", watch this video: http://zaps166.sf.net/downloads/QMPlay2_youtube-dl.mp4

Full readme is on Github: https://github.com/zaps166/QMPlay2

Ubuntu packages (DEB):
- 64-bit (x86-64) only,
- Ubuntu 14.04 package contains FFmpeg 3.0.2 and it is designed only for Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17,
- Ubuntu 15.10 package uses system FFmpeg, it is also designed for Ubuntu 16.04,
- uses Qt4,
- tray context menu on Ubuntu Unity (currently works properly on Linux Mint 17 Xfce4 edition) doesn't work due to bugs in dbus-tray implementation in Qt, it will work since Qt 5.6.1,
- download links are here on qt-apps.org or on QMPlay2 website,
- if you hide QMPlay2 in Ubuntu Unity you can't show it again from tray icon (will be available since Qt 5.6.1). Just write "QMPlay2 -show" in terminal.

 Can someone build a deb?

by AnonYMouse on: May 13 2016

Score 50%

Can someone please build a deb for this app, as it can no longer be gotten through the samrog131 ppa, because he/she has abandoned it and moved to Arch, so all the instructions everywhere saying to add the repository are now no longer working.

I'm also using Arch (I don't know how to build DEB package, I don't want to learn and maintain the repo). I can at least build QMPlay2 and pack it to .tar.xz and describe which dependencies are needed.

You can read Ubuntu compilation instruction (Readme) on GitHub: https://github.com/zaps166/QMPlay2 - it is very simple since Ubuntu 15.04 (because it has FFmpeg instead of old LibAV).

Btw. why can't it be in Ubuntu/Debian official repo?

Unfortunately, being extremely new to Linux, that would be 'too complicated for me' -- as @mlauzon -- has said.

Someone needs to build a DEB for this app, or it's going to lose a lot of users unless we go to another version of Linux that supports it through the repository.

Hmm, OK. I'll try to build DEB using Qt4. Which Ubuntu version (or is it Debian or Mint)?

Hey, I can build and host 32 and 64-bit deb packages for Debian 8 and Ubuntu 15.10 and 16.04 quite easily on the openSUSE build service (OBS). It's free and rather simple to use, once you figure ways around a few quirks it has. Among quite a few packages I have on there, I maintain repos for the Pale Moon browser. This is an example of the web interface I use:

https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:stevenpusser/palemoon

and the "download package" link in the upper right is what you'd give to users.

Debian 7 and Ubuntus 12.04, 14.04, & 15.04 would require me building the "real" ffmpeg in those repos first--it's a little more hassle, but I also know how to do that. :)

Ok, so try to build the packages (see readme on github and current DEB packages and Arch PKGBUILD for more details) :)

For old Ubuntu you can just include FFmpeg libraries into one DEB package (like I did) and use LD_LIBRARY_PATH in script or use 'rpath' in ELF. This will not bring new dependencies.

Hmmm--something's currently wrong with 15.10 on OBS, as it says it can't find many -dev packages that I know are there. For now, I just have 16.04 Qt4 builds: https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=home%3Astevenpusser%3Aqmplay2&package=qmplay2

Hmm, I don't know how the OBS works :D

If you have something - write an email - it is more convenient than comments :)

You can use libgme for Game-Music-Emu plugin, but you must modify the *.pro file (ubuntu libgme doesn't use PKGCONFIG).
In src/modules/Chiptune/Chiptune.pro replace the message about missing libgme by:

LIBS += -lgme
DEFINES += USE_GME

and add the library to dependencies.

It's not about that; I think they are currently having some trouble with the Ubuntu virtual machines that the packages are built with. I was able to add it to another OBS repo I run for Debian 8 (Jessie) with some updated multimedia applications, such as Kodi 16.1, mpv 0.17.0 and VLC 2.2.3. Since it already had ffmpeg 3.0.2, it was ready for me to just throw the source in there and let it build.

If your Ubuntu/Mint repo will be ready I'll add it to README, so you can send me the installation instruction :)

I haven't yet checked to see if they fixed the Ubuntu problems, but the 16.04 version can be installed by following the link I gave above

https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=home%3Astevenpusser%3Aqmplay2&package=qmplay2

Click on the Ubuntu icon and follow the instructions to add the repo and its key, or to directly download the deb package (not recommended for older versions of Ubuntu if I get them up, since that deb will probably depend on other packages I may have to add to the repo to get the "real" ffmpeg built in there.)

Also, if I wanted QMPlay2 to build and use an internal ffmpeg, I'd have to figure out and add all the extra build-depends manually to the debian/control file for QMPlay2. Plus a "system" ffmpeg lets me use it for other packages, like the 3.0.2 ffmpeg for Kodi in my Jessie repo (add that link to your README, too) allowed me to also use that prebuilt ffmpeg for QMPlay2.

Not to mention that using shared system packages whenever possible (sometimes to the point of ridiculousness) is Debian and thus Ubuntu packaging policy.

Hmmm--older versions of Ubuntu are still giving trouble.

I believe that those older versions, back to and including 14.04, should be able to add and use the Debian Jessie repo I made, though of course this should need some testing by an Ubuntu user (which I'm not).

I can test it on Ubuntu (VirtualBox) later.

So currently it is not possible to build for 14.04 using OBS?

Btw. the next QMPlay2 release will be able to use libgme on Ubuntu without modifying the config file.

I could build it for 14.04 by first building the "real" ffmpeg in the OBS repo. I've already done that for Debian Jessie, and 14.04 is the closest to that Debian release.

Jessie repo instructions: https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=home%3Astevepassert&package=mpv

and the contents of that mini-multimedia backports repo: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stevepassert/Debian_8.0/
