 Nice work (+ bug report)

 by lazork on: May 23 2012

I had been using aldabra up to the release of gnome 3.4, so it's nice to see you working on this (which I believe it's something the gnome guys should have done themeself in the first place).
The only problem I've encoutered so far (besides openoffice) is that progress bars are white in Deluge.

Thanks for the report and the vote- I'll look into Deluge for the next iteration.

We had a bug report about GTK 2 & Qt support for Adwaita, and I had some discussions with the authors, as well as the author of Qt's QGtkStyle. The only feasible approach that could be accepted upstream is an Adwaita GTK 2 engine, but there is no interest as all the relevant contributors are focused on future features and porting applications. Also, there are very big Qt features being focused on for 5.0, so a QGtkStyle update couldn't happen until post-Qt5.

Considering these positions, I figured I can keep up with the upstream changes and release a new theme every six months until GTK 2 becomes irrelevant (hopefully only a year or two). I also anticipate fewer major changes to the theme's overall look moving forward.

Thanks again for the feedback!

 Add this to applications that don't look right

Eclipse looks notably wrong - the two main issues seem to be the toolbar separators, and whatever toolbars it's using for Outline, Explorer, etc.

I really appreciate what you're doing, keep up the good work.

Looks great! Libre Office looks a little odd but it's still very nice. Thanks a lot! :)

Just on a side note, I found a bug, which I also noticed this issue with aldabra as well; on banshee you can't use the clear button in search bar with this theme. If you click it, nothing happens.

I'll try to see if there's any fix available for that. Unfortunately, the more I tweak the theme, the more I realize the limitations of the pixmap engine. I may soon have to choose between functionality and accuracy. Thanks again for being thorough in your feedback.

Just a follow up on your comment about Banshee's clear button. I can't seem to reproduce the issue- when I type a search and click the clear button (the little broom), it empties the search box. Is this the behavior you're talking about?

If this issue is still happening on your end, I'd like to know which version of Banshee you're running, and which DE/distro if possible, so I can test it.

I'm using Fedora 17 with Banshee 2.4.0 (gtk2 version). I can also confirm this with 2.2.1. According to upstream Banshee, this isn't a problem with banshee, or so I'm told.

Also nice job with 0.2, looks great :)

 Bug Report :)

I figure this maybe worth noting; I came across this while running a gtk2 program:

** (gtk:7574): WARNING **: Invalid borders specified for theme pixmap:
/usr/share/themes/Bridge/gtk-2.0/Shadows/frame.png,
borders don't fit within the image

When I don't use the elementary theme, this is probably really high up there.

"Bug": Chromium tab background. Best thing to see how to easily do it without breaking anything else would be: look @ Ambiance apps/chromium.rc

Thanks for your work

Stolen it - to speed things up, just copy paste this (just like I did) to the bottom of the gtk-2.0/gtkrc:

# ==============================================================================
# CHROMIUM SPECIFIC SETTINGS
# ==============================================================================

style "chromium_toolbar_button" {
engine "murrine" {
roundness = 3
textstyle = 0
}
}

style "chrome-gtk-frame"
{
ChromeGtkFrame::frame-color = "#EDEDED"
ChromeGtkFrame::inactive-frame-color = "#EDEDED"

ChromeGtkFrame::frame-gradient-size = 16
ChromeGtkFrame::frame-gradient-color = "#EDEDED"

ChromeGtkFrame::incognito-frame-color = lighter ("#EDEDED")
ChromeGtkFrame::incognito-inactive-frame-color = lighter ("#EDEDED")

ChromeGtkFrame::incognito-frame-gradient-size = 16
ChromeGtkFrame::incognito-frame-gradient-color = "#EDEDED"

ChromeGtkFrame::scrollbar-trough-color = shade (0.912, @bg_color)
ChromeGtkFrame::scrollbar-slider-prelight-color = shade (1.04, @bg_color)
ChromeGtkFrame::scrollbar-slider-normal-color = @bg_color
}

class "ChromeGtkFrame" style "chrome-gtk-frame"

widget_class "*Chrom*Button*" style "chromium_toolbar_button"

Thanks- the update will have many alterations to make the theme cleaner and more consistent with Adwaita, so keep an eye open in the following weeks. Thanks for the code, it saves me some time. I was quite annoyed with this myself- it'll be included in the next version.

Me again.

Quick fix the toolbutton-normal and pixmap_path errors:

sudo cp /usr/share/themes/Bridge/gtk-2.0/Buttons/button-normal.png /usr/share/themes/Bridge/gtk-2.0/Toolbar/toolbutton-normal.png

Now there's only one left that seems to be caused in applications like gimp:
WARNING **: Invalid borders specified for theme pixmap:
/usr/share/themes/Bridge/gtk-2.0/Shadows/frame.png,
borders don't fit within the image

Just I don't have the time to find out whats going on there. ;)

Oh, thanks for taking the time to let me know. I'm pretty sure I know what's going on with that last error- I'm going to see if it's still showing up in the version I'm working on.

Really appreciate your work on this theme man, it looks great! I love the adwaita theme, but having no matching theme for gtk2 was a total dealbreaker. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the encouraging comment. It was a dealbreaker for me, too- enough to drive me to KDE gasping for Oxygen (bad pun). But I decided it wasn't worth it- I just love GNOME 3's interaction patterns, and it's clean and simple by default.

The next update or two will tidy up the rough edges and we can wait for 3.6- hopefully this theme will help people feel comfortable sticking to GNOME.
