Description:

Import a youtube video / playlist into VLC.


INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- when the file appears click on the menu file > save as... of your browser
- put the file in the vlc /lua/playlist folder, by default:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\playlist\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/playlist/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/playlist/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/playlist/
(create directories if they don\'t exist)
/!\ Some browser (Chrome...) may change the file extension for ".txt" instead of ".lua", so make sure you choose "All extensions" in the dialog box when you save the file on your computer.

USAGE:
- Copy the URL of the youtube video or playlist (must contain "list=PL...")
- Start VLC, press Ctrl+N, paste the url then click on "Play" (or Alt+P then Enter), the video /playlist should start

Troubleshooting:
/!\ Follow this steps if and only if you have already install the script and it doesn't work..
/!\ for the actual script see the "download" button (playlist_youtube.lua) below.
If the videos list appears in the Vlc "playlist" view but the videos won't start, follow this steps:
1) delete the file "youtube.luac" in [Vlc directory]/lua/playlist directory (ex: c:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist\youtube.luac)
2) get the latest version of thr "youtube" script from here:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/videolan/vlc/master/share/lua/playlist/youtube.lua
3) place the file in the directory [Vlc directory]/lua/playlist (where "youtube.luac" was)

/!\/!\/!\ Please do not paste your raw error log here, use a pastebin service like pastebin.com.

I do exactly what you say, but doesn't work, shows the playlist in the list, but when I doubleclick the link don't do anything... Please help me, this is could be really a great addon for my PC and VLC. I'm working with Windows 7 and its a 64bits OS.

Double-check that the .lua file didn't get saved with a .txt tacked on.

This happened to me when I saved with Chrome on a Mac. I saw it and removed it in the save dialog but yet it still ended up with .txt at the end.

Anyway after removing it in "Get Info" all was well.

when your saving the file in windows it defaults to save as a .txt file you should select the
"all files" option in the dropdown, this will stop the file being saved as .lua.txt

Working on Mountain Lion & VLC 2.0.4, but no dice. I paste in the playlist URL and the URL itself shows in the playlist window, but nothing's imported and clicking on the URL does nothing.

It would be a great feature if I could get it to work ...

I need more info, can you give me:
- your playlist url (is it like this: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=XXX ?)
- the debug log:
click on menu View > Messages, set verbosity level = 2 then try to start your playlist again and watch for error message in the message box

Ok it seems I have gotten this working. It's the link that I used the site calls it a playlist but apparently not the right format for this plug-in.
