Microsoft spent millions of dollars finding a windowing theme that would appeal to people. If we can simply design a theme for KDE that looks similiar to XP then people will feel more comfortable moving from Microsoft Windows XP to KDE. Besides, when you install this theme alongside and microsoft office it can really wierd people out!

Don't reply here if you don't like XP themes.

Many people do. I like to make my systems look like XP because that is what I use most of the day and am comfortable with.

The systems are still Linux - people just like to alter the appearance. So what is the problem?

You suggest changing to another OS just for the looks of it? You must be out of your mind...

 Mandrake RPMS

I have made RPMs of this theme for Mandrake 8.2 and cooker, which you can find at the PLF site, http://plf.zarb.org

You can install them via urpmi, or download the RPMs from http://plf.zarb.org/rpm/8.2/noarch or http://plf.zarb.org/rpm/cooker/noarch

Note that on 8.2 this will only work with the RPMs built for a /opt/kde3 prefix, otherwise (if you have the original 3.0.1 set), install the one for cooker.

There are more themes there, including Mosfet's liquid, keramik, crystal, win2k.

If you want more, join the plf mailing lists and request there.

Hey, don't say that this doesn't do anything, and it is not worthwile to have this, at least the author done something that he wish you would like, you might hurt the author, besides windows xp's interface is cool, and this might help people who are used to xp interface than kde...

you know us linux users........ "WE ARE SPORT!", so c'mon help each other.

out of a thousand themes what are the odds that the microsoft clone is the only one with rwx permissions on every file and folder...
So we have copyright infringements on the icons, lack of concern for security, only thing we are missing here is an outrageous fee and a couple bugs...mabye for future releases huh?

So he has rvx permissions on some files - where is the security concern? Is someone going to try and execute an icon file?

 Problem

HI!

I love this theme. But i have a problem! I installed everything like it is described in the README, but then i recognized that the Kde-control-pannel doesn´t look like WinXP, it DOES look like like the default setting from kde. AND the Icons (for Example in Konqueror are the same as before installing this theme), even though i did install the icons (they are there)

WHO CAN HELP ME??

TO change the KDE "taskbar" simply go into the control center, look and feel, k panel, and select the background image at the bottom, put a check in that box, then browse to where you downloaded this theme and find the bar.png file. To change the icons, simply go to the control center, icons, then choose the kde-xp icons.
Hope that helps,
BB
