I dont really know the answer to this, sorry.

Have you tried opening the .ui files in designer and re-saving them?

FYI I've got designer 3.3.1

Cheers,
Matt

Tried it again on a differnent machine and got the same error. It turns out I don't even have qt designer installed on this machine. Used apt to get version 3.2.3-4, but I still get the same error. Pinned experimental for 3.3.3 and that works.

Got it working, but the icon is missing.

Yeah, that's a common mistake. If you use Qt 3.3 Designer than all .ui files automatically require Qt 3.3. However KDE 3.2 only requires Qt 3.2.

This can be easily solved by editing the .ui by hand and change 3.3 to 3.2.

best,
Jeroen

i had the same error, cause i have qt3.2.3 not qt3.3 .. then the solution is edit all files.ui and change in first line 3.3 to 3.2.3 . then it should be compile.

I think google has changed the login procedure as I and other people have not been able to login even though our details are correct.

I'll fix this problem in a few days when I have the time. Until the next release, KCheckGmail will be broken.

Cheers,
Matt.

I did not get this error until I restared KDE. I can click on the systray icon and Firefox opens to my account, but it is not checking for mail. But as I said, it did not break until it was restarted.

 what a great app

I really loved this app. I'm looking forward to broken logon fix. :)

One suggestion I have is to allow different notifications based on the gmail label an incoming email gets; that way a different tune could be played depending on who sent you an email. I don't know if the gmail protocols provide the label info, but I think this would be helpful.

I'm going to have the login bug squashed hopefuly by the end of this weekend..

Thanks for your suggestion! There's heaps of cool features kcheckgmail can have once it can parse gmails javascript.

Like how about selecting a contact from KCheckGmail and have it launch the browser with a gmail compose message page showing?

I wonder how far the integration can go..

It really is awesome. The login fix is a little bothersome, but nonetheless, still cool.

Here is a suggestion, but more than likely ludicrous: Perhaps integrate the info into a POP3/SMTP server??

That would be really cool!!

Hi,

Please try downloading:

http://nxzilla.sf.net/gmail.cpp

and replace this file in src directory.

Keep the bugs coming in guys!

If anyone is still having problems with autoconf versions etc, I'm going to do another point release soon which will include a ready-made configure script...

Cheers,
Matt.

 Help 'n other things

Well guys, some things:

a) Login/Check still doesn't work with the most recent version
b) The help is a joke, comments like "You silly goose" are not helpful, just a pain in the ass. So either remove the help completly (would be better IMHO) or rewrite it.

I'd opened it up to get more information about _how_ KCheckGmail determines if new mail is available in GMail (also for security reasons) but was very much disappointed...

TommyD.

KCheckGmail currently uses an encryted connection to login and unencrypted http thereafter. The reason for this is I'm on a 33.6k modem and have to test with this :-)

Next version will have the option to use https everywhere.

With regards to the documentation, my main concern right now is adding new features.. Sorry if the "silly goose" comment offended you, that file was generated by kdevelop. I'll remove the docs from the next version.

Cheers,
Matt.

Hey Matt!

Thanks for the info how the connection and actual check is setup. I'm just curious: Does GMail provide any webservice-like interface for that or do you grab the info out of raw HTML?

Tommy.

Well, lets hope they will offer some webservice in the future, this type of "hack" isn't pretty... I could think of a good load of extented functionality (e.g. "notify me with a certain bell/ message if I get a new message from abc@xyz.com" or "update my local contacts with the GMail ones" aso.)

I got the invitation to GMail from a friend of mine. He already uses it for all his mail while I still like to have my complete correspondence downloaded on my PC (or at least a "backup" there). If GMail wouldn't lack on more sync tools I'd probably use it far more. Having all mail stored in a central place sounds pretty interesting, but as long as Google can't guarantee what will happen with it when anything changes I won't change over completly.

True it's not pretty, but it's not exactly butt ugly either when compared to the screen scraper that would be required with something like yahoo mail ;-)

To really break stuff (other than login) google would have to change their javascript API which I would think they would not do in a hurry. Just have to wait and see I guess...

Yep, unfortunately... I checked it several times (even typed my pass into some texteditor and copied over into the pref dialog), I still get "Invalid user name or password", obviously I login without problems to gmail.google.com...

Would you mind sending me the debug output? the way to generate this is:

1. $ kdebugdialog --fullmode
2. select "0 (generic)" as debug area
3. set "information" output to file, /tmp/kdebug.dbg
4. start up kcheckgmail and try to login as normal. after it fails, quit..
6. $ egrep ^kcheckgmail /tmp/kdebug.dbg > kcheckgmail.dbg
7. email kcheckgmail.dbg to me :-)

Cheers,
Matt.
