Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

If you have other issue you can ask for a solution here or on github but please get the full vlc debug log and add it as a pastebin to your post. The procedure is explained here:
https://github.com/exebetche/vlsub/wiki/Troubleshooting

 Problem

Hi. The addon is working fine on my laptop which runs linux.
The problem is on my desktop pc that is not working. My OS is windows 7 64bits. When i try to search legends it doesn't appear any. It looks like the addon don't even try to search for it.

I ran the progam with debug and this is the message that it shows me:
lua warning: Error while running script C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\148752-vlsub.lua, function (null)(): ...s (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\148752-vlsub.lua:420: H:/Séries/The Walking Dead/Season 3/The.Walking.Dead.S03E09.720p.HDTV.x264-EVOLVE.mkv: No such file or directory

Thanks.

Hello,

There is not the folder "extensions" in lua folder so you have to create it and then you have to put the lua file inside that folder.

I have Windows 7 64-bit and it works fine.

The problem is "é" character. So far it is not possible to handle properly paths with non-English characters. UTF-8 encoded string of the path is incompatible with code page of OS.
Is "H:/" a writable location like HDD or USB?

When I click on the download button, the source program is displayed on a next screen but no file is downloaded.
May I do a false action?
Thx for the answer.

 VLsub enhancement idea

To preview chosen and downloaded subtitles in a dialog box. As there is a problem with handling of paths with non-English characters, it would be easy to select and copy content of subtitles and manually save in a local file using some text editor like Notepad in Windows.

 Not appearing?

Hello, I have Windows 8 x64 and I copied the vlsub.lua file in both C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions and %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions. VLC player though doesn't seem to care. I have the latest version (2.0.6). What do you think could be the problem here?

 Not deleting Zip files.

Sorry, me again.
It seem like this version stopped auto deleting the zip files after extraction.
I really like the new interface.

Windows 7 32
Vlc 2.0.6

I don't get that problem, could you check if you have something relevant in your log (Ctrl+M, set verbosity to 2 if needed and retry download process).
And btw thanks for your support, much appreciated :)

It gives me this error right after I launch the extension.

lua error: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Here's the whole debug. http://pastebin.com/pLhnXfQy

Totally my pleasure to help, don't hesitate to ask me anything else.

Although it doesn't give that error at the start, the zip file is still not being deleted.

This time it gave me this new error:

main error: subpicture heap full (That line repeats more than a hundred times)

 Should work now

I think that's fixed.

@everyone:
A general feedback on the last version would be appreciated, since they want to include VLSub in the next Vlc release.
Any thought, suggestion?
Thanks.

I'm really glad to hear that. Congrats!!
Everything works and looks great.

Suggestions:
All I can think of right now is if you can make it remember the last selected language ( I edited my default language manually but I don't know how many people know how to do that). Also, something I said in a previous comment: Search subtitles by hash (witch is the one that gives the best results)automatically when you open Vlsub (I also edited mine to do this)

Hello,
your plugin is awesome!!
If I can ask you a feature,would be add a default subtitle option and the subtitle downloaded without extension language.
ex: "filename.srt" and not "filename.eng.srt".
sorry for my bad english.
thanks
