Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

I get a strange problem with the addon:
The addon appears and finds the subtitles, but when I try to download them I get an error:

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "\Videos\Whats.Eating.Gilbert.Grape.1993.544x288.25fps.761kbs.96mp3.MultiSub.WunSeeDee\Whats.Eating.Gilbert.Grape.1993.544x288.25fps.761kbs.96mp3.MultiSub.WunSeeDee.srt". (%m)
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:////Videos/Whats.Eating.Gilbert.Grape.1993.544x288.25fps.761kbs.96mp3.MultiSub.WunSeeDee/Whats.Eating.Gilbert.Grape.1993.544x288.25fps.761kbs.96mp3.MultiSub.WunSeeDee.srt'. Check the log for details.

The thing is, it is actually downloading the subs and extracting the correct ones from the zip, just doesn't open them, so if I close VLC and open it again it works with the subs.

Why does 'Subtitle finder' finds more subtitles than VLSub (and than other apps with the same purpose, like SubDownloader and SMPlayer?)

in fact opensubtitles.org is the only source for both. but they search it differently i guess. usually is subtitle finder that provides more findings. but not always, as i was able to see after a while

so, some lua files are opened as text in certain browser: in this case, to save the file, just 'save page as'

Just edit the script in some text editor. Locate "-- Global variables" section at the beginning of the script and set default_language = "all" instead of default_language = "eng".

I've been using this great addon for a few days and then all of a sudden it stopped working. I deleted it and re-copied the extension but it still doesn't work as before.

1) The video hash doesnt work. just says "caclulating movie hash" but never finds anything.

2) if I use the imdb ID it can find the subtitles but then not downloaded them. The downloading subtitle green bar appears but never downloads anything.

Before today everything was fine. Both methods worked without problem. I've tried using files that found subtitles before.

I'm using VLC 2.0.5 on windows 7 64bit, with version VLSub 0.8.

Any ideas much appreciated!

Opensubtitles servers are probably overloaded :/, it should pass in a while
