Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

 Wont search at all and wont even open during video

Hi! So the whole extension just wont work for me at every turn. The only way I can open the screen is by opening it when I open VLC, not during the movie/show. After I open it, I try to search ANYTHING by title, season, and episode but nothing at all shows up. Because I can't open the extension during the movie, what I did was open it beforehand and then start up the movie/show. While the movie is playing, I click on "search by hash" and at the bottom it says "calculating hash" but the progress bar doesn't move at all (after 30 mins of waiting I realized it wouldn't work) and nothing shows up. Can anyone please help me?? Thanks a lot in advance!

Yes, I tried the latest version though to make sure and that one wouldn't open no matter what I did.

As is described on must be version 2.0.8 of VLC , not the latest one( 2.1.x)

Same here.
I've just downloaded the lastest version of VLC and still, the vlsub window doesn't open when video is playing. If I open the window while video is not playing and then click on play, it never performs the hash calculation nor gets the name of the video for searching.

I am using the mac version and downloaded the last version of VLSub also.

I got this:
VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x on any platform because the lua "net" module needed to interact with opensubtitles has been removed in this release for the extensions.
Works with Vlc 2.2 on mac and linux.
On windows you have to install an older version of Vlc (2.0.8 for example) to use Vlsub:

So I guess I have to wait till 2.2 version is released.

Maybe try to install for current user or execute the installer as admin. Or you can just do it manually, you just have to create the directory and put the file in it.
Anyway it won't work on windows unless you use vlc version 2.0.x, version 2.1 and 2.2 won't work.

Hello! Since the default version of VLC that comes with Ubuntu 14.04 is still rincewind I googled how to install 2.2 which led me to this thread: http://linuxg.net/how-to-install-vlc-2-2-on-ubuntu-13-10-13-04-12-10-12-04-and-linux-mint-15-14-13-via-ppa/ . After following the instructions I ened up with the daily version which is VLC 3.0.0-git Vetinari.

After getting that sorted out and vlsub installed I can get the plugin to display its screen, however when I attempt to do a search the error log diplays the message :
Quote:
lua warning: Error while running script /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/VLSub.luac, function (null)(): lua/extensions/VLSub.lua:1691: attempt to call field 'gfind' (a nil value)


I am more than happy to roll back to the old version of VLC, but still thought I would make the report to give you a heads up regarding the issue.

Hi,

The version of the script embeded with Vlc is very old and never worked. If you want to use it with a version > to vlc 2.0 (vlc 2.2 or 3, 2.1 doesn't work) you should try this version:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tobozo/vlsub/c818867564036b56ed362cb12d2b098caf1dc51f/vlsub.lua
