Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

I have the same problem. Just got the latest installment of vlsub, I use Windows 7 and vlc is 2.08. Everyting works, except the downloading of the subttl files

This what I get when debugging:
lua warning: Error while running script C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua\extensions\vlcsub.lua, function (null)(): ...s\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua\extensions\vlcsub.lua:1087: bad argument #1 to 'gfind' (string expected, got nil)

Pleas help ;-)

Please help to make it work (again). I updated (by accident) vlc to 2.13 and then changed it back to 2.08 and got the latest vlsub

No you're not, there's no 'gfind' function at line 1087 of the current script. The script being executed here is the one packed with Vlc 2.1 that hasn't been updated and doesn't work. You'll find it in the "all users" dir (refer to description). Remove it. Make sure you see the current version of the extension when you launch it (0.9.11).

 "search by hash" overflows?

 by karpa on: May 13 2014

Score 50%

Greetings,
I'm experiencing troubles using "Search by hash" functionality.

I've captured communication using Wireshark and compared it to communication of official openSubtitles searcher (which also uses hash searching function) and found some inconsistencies.

While the official searcher sends movie size of value "2 331 600 371" (which is correct), VLSub
sends <double>65535</double> (possible overflow?). Also the calculated hash is slightly different.
             "354a0e589e5aae50" with openSubtitles searcher and
<string>354a0e581362485c</string> with VLSub.

Thanks for the otherwise great extension though :)

Ok, I tried a fix could you download the script again and tell me if it works? It should be slower with file bigger than 2Gb on windows though.

Nope, is_win flag doesn't get set

see output of debug Messages http://pastebin.com/96wBRWuC

I made some modifications to getMovieHash() function so it prints the is_win flag, here (lines 25-31):

You have to reproduce the error, there's nothing in your log. But anyway make sure you have the last version of the script (0.9.11).

Thanks, it works fine. And the downloading of the subtitles is ok, except an error message at the end of the downloading. But no consequence.

To fix the problem with the subtiles not loading, open the script with a text editor and replace at line 1625:
-- add_sub(target) or
add_sub(subfileURI)
with:
add_sub(target) or
-- add_sub(subfileURI)

I'm currently arguing with the Vlc team over this new dumb change of the api but for now I have no solution but to edit the script manually.

I have try the script what you instruct us but I get same error for loading. On top with this latest script if I search "by hash " subtitle remain blocked on search and never finalise.Search by name is working.
Now I put the old version go vlsub 0.9.11 which is working search by hash but here in the script is different line 1625
