Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

On VLsub 0.9.10 When i click the search by name for searching subtitles movie, it say server overloaded, please retry later. Can anyone help me how to fix this?

Hello! I am having a problem with the extension of VLC sub using UBUNTU GNOME 14.04. The point is, if I click on the button "Vl sub 0.9.10" with NO movie loaded, it is charging correctly. But, when I click on it when I am playing a movie, this is error the terminal is showing me:

hey zapote, VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x on any platform.

It works with 2.0.8 (not available on ubuntu 14.04), and they said that it works with vlc 2.2, i installed vlc 2.2 on ubuntu 14.04 and i get this error when i search for subtitles :

It looks like an encoding problem, did you copy/paste the code?
If so, make sure your file is utf8 encoded, you can just drag and drop the file from zip to erase the other.

i switched to utf8, but not the font is the problem, is a path problem: script is triyng to read file:///home/tibbus/file%3A///home/tibbus/Two.and.a.Half.Men.S11E16.HDTV.XviD-FUM.srt' instead of file:///home/tibbus/Two.and.a.Half.Men.S11E16.HDTV.XviD-FUM.srt'

Of course the font is not the problem, I said utf8 is text encoding, not font. From the log I see the path sent to Vlc is correct (if you paste the adress after "Adding subtitle" in your browser you should get the file). But for some reason Vlc doesn't interpret it as an url adress but a file name, that made me think that's an encoding problem. Some people confirm that it works with vlc 2.2 on linux but I didn't test it myself, so I can't help you at this point, sorry.

ok, ty for your support, yes the plugin download the file, unzip the file ALL ok, and when it tries to pass the sub to VLC it handle the path wrong or something.(if I close VLC, then I open VLC and the subtitle is loaded)

I started to read the vlsub.lua script to find where is that path to fix it for me, but without success :)

I think you just have to replace:
local target = openSub.file.dir..subfileName
with:
local target = subfileName

...at line 1512.

Vlc 2.2 is still in beta, I'll see if it needs a permanent fix when they release it.

Anyway don't know if it need a fix for others, can be only my case, i had some troubles to make vlc 2.2 to work on ubuntu 14.04, installed and reinstalled manytimes, maybe my vlc is a little bit broken :)

I was wrong, that didn't fixed the problem, that will replace the "path to file" with the "file name" without the folder path.

I fixed at line 1551 :
replaced subfileURI = vlc.strings.make_uri(target) WITH
subfileURI = target

Man! these guys @ VLC keep pushing "lua net module" back.

It was supposed to be fixed in 2.1.2 then pushed back to 2.1.x, now its pushed back to 2.2.x.

Dont they know how many people are depended on this?

Recently OpenSubtitles went down, and since it's back up, I am unable to download subtitles with VLSub. I can search and find them, but once I select one and click "Download selection", the progess bar "Downloading subtitle" at the bottom appears, but nothing happens.

I'm on Windows 7, VLC 2.0.8, VLSub 0.9.10

Can you help me?

This version works with Vlc 2.2 (not released yet) on linux and mac but you have to modify one line of the script, see the github page "pull request". With windows you're stuck with Vlc 2.0.
