Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

My VLsub extensions use to work perfectly before and since 1month there is an issue that I cannot really fix by myself.
Please find the VLC debug log here :
http://pastebin.com/aeT60LDK

And also when I launch a movie and tried to start the VLsub extension via clicking on View>Vlsub I got this message :

Any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Florian

 gz file

Hey, i was using the plugin just fine and everything was perfect, but then updated the player to its newest release and the plugin stopped working.
So I just went back to an older release, but then the plugin stopped working. Now it downloads a gz file and vlc doesn't want to load the gz file. I have to manually extract the srt file inside.
How do I fix that?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with a notebook. I tried to track down the problem by looking at the lua script.
The user is not the PC administrator and MAYBE it could be related to the tmp directory used to unpack the gz file. I can "read" the code because I am a computer programer but I know nothing about lua so I will keep trying to understand it and I hope to solve this problem. :)

Try to copy the movie to the root directory of a usb key and try again to download subtitles with VLSub.
I think the script messes up the path when unpacking the gz file so subdirectories must be avoided.

 VLD problems

 by VLD on: Jan 5 2014

I had problems with VLSub version 0.9.10 but when installed v0.9 copied over from another computer it worked fine. It looks like a bug which explains the problems people are having above.

My recommendation is to install VLC version 2.0.8 Twoflower + VLSub 0.9

When is an add-on going to be developed for the latest VLC player as I've switched off the updates
as they always detect that I'm using an older VLC player

They (not the VLSub author) disabled the net namespace in the latest VLC versions so this lua extension doesn't work anymore. We are waiting for the next VLC version that (maybe) will fix this problem.

 Moved to 2.0.8, extension failed to install

 by harjifangki on: Jan 10 2014

So I have removed my v2.1.3 VLC, which means removing all extensions and plugins with it.

Next I install the v2.0.8 Twoflower.

Finally I re download this plugin, copy the locale VLsub.lua and the locale folder in the C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions

What happened next? It seems that the extension is failed to be installed. I check the "View" drop-down menu where it's usually located, and found nothing. Nada.

And then I try to install it with the installer. Nope, nothing.

Is there any solution for this? I really love this extension and I can't afford to lose it.
I even convince my friends to use VLC solely because of this extension.
