Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

Any news on that?
What about vlc 2.1.2 - did you try with it?

"Modified from 2.1.3 to 2.1.x maintenance bugs"... what does it mean ? Have to wait forever ? BTW, I saw in VLSub that italian translations are missing. I'm italian, need a hand ?

That will work, but if you copy the string to debug on 64bit, take out the " x(86)" of the string. It's not correct for 64bit installation.

I also use the same version. Have and had the same problem. Simply doesn´t show up in the menu.

I think it's because I'm using 64bit VLC. When installing the 32bit version everything works fine.

Sorry correcting myself: the problem is not due to having 64bit. See my other post 'vlsub not appearing'

 vlsub not appearing

 by miguell on: Dec 6 2013

Hi I just spend the entire morning trying to fix vlsub that did not appear.
Windows 7 64bit, installed vlc 2.0.8 TwoFlower.
So, I tried 32 bit: vlsub does not appear in View menu either.
So I tried English versions, 2.0.7 and also latest version: with latest versions menus DOES appear, but as known does not work in 2.1.1 version so far.
So deinstalled everything, reinstalled 64 bit version 2.0.0.8: menu does not appear under 'View' menu.
Then I did: "%Programfiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --verbose=2 --file-logging --logfile="c:\vlc_log.txt"
and edited the vlc_log.txt: there seems to be a funny character appearing somewhere:
lua warning: Error loading script C:\Users\mjl\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua\extensions\vlsub.lua: C:\Users\mjl\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua\extensions\vlsub.lua:1: unexpected symbol near ''

So I went to %appdata%\vlc\lua\extensions directory and edited the file with Notepad++
I deleted the first part which only seems to be comment. Then I chose the option in notepad++ menu: 'Codificación', 'Convertir a UTF 8 sin BOM' (sorry my notepad++ is in spanish, but I suppose the english version must have a similar menu.
I also went to the end of the file and deleted the few returns that were there with backspace.

It works now!

Hi,

"Exebetche" (Guillaume) already modified the files, so you can simply download them again, using the links at the top of the page or if you want: I dropped the files here also: http://ourbirthday.info/uploads/
Also, if you use windows 7 installer batch file, everything should work now since I saw that has been modified by Guillaume. Thank you Exebetche, great job!

regards, Miguel

Hi, just to add that the batch file to be downloaded as win7 installer is not perfect. I had to do some modifications to make it work. Here is my contenct of the file that made things work.

@Echo OFF
SetLocal EnableDelayedExpansion

if "%1"=="-h" GOTO :HELP
if "%1"=="-H" GOTO :HELP
if "%1"=="-?" GOTO :HELP
if "%1"=="-help" GOTO :HELP
if "%1"=="--help" GOTO :HELP

GOTO :DOWNLOAD

:DOWNLOAD

echo VLSub Installation
echo ------------------
echo.

set /p ALLUSERS="Install VLSub for all users or current user only (a/c)?"
rem Miguell -> added 'A' as a valid option, not only lowercase.
if "%ALLUSERS%" == "A" (
set ALLUSERS=a
)

if "%ALLUSERS%"=="a" (
echo Installing VLSub for all user
if exist "%Programfiles(x86)%\VideoLAN\VLC" (
set INSTALLDIR="%Programfiles(x86)%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions"
) else (
set INSTALLDIR="%ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions"
)
) else (
echo Installing VLSub for current user
set INSTALLDIR="%APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions"
)
if not exist %INSTALLDIR% (
echo Creating directory '%INSTALLDIR%'
mkdir %INSTALLDIR%

ECHO.
echo vlsub.lua location: %INSTALLDIR%\vlsub.lua
ECHO.
powershell.exe -Command (new-object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadFile('https://raw.github.com/exebetche/vlsub/master/vlsub.lua','%INSTALLDIR%\vlsub.lua')

echo.
rem Miguell -> Next else was not preceded by "(" and "if exist" needed to use %installdir% without quotes
if exist %INSTALLDIR%\vlsub.lua (
echo Installation successfully completed!
) else (
echo Installation FAILED! (this installation supposes your Videolan has been installed in "program files" or "program files (x86)")

 Unicode rename method

 by Reflected on: Dec 17 2013

Score 50%

Hi.
I'm a new user of your add-on and it's great. Congratulations ;)
Sometimes opensubtitles doesn´t have the files I need but usually they have them, so this add-on makes my search easier.
But using it I've found a little bug. I'm spanish and some words in my language have the letter "ñ".
I can make correct searches with your add-on but when the subtitle is downloaded and it's automatically renamed it fails because of this letter.
Can you solve this little issue? I think there would be other countries afected by this "error".

Thank you

I confirm, I had a video in a folder with the letter "é" in its name, VLSub was unable to extract/copy the subtitle from the downloaded archive to this directory.

Got an error "VLC n'a pas pu ouvrir le fichier « E: ». (Bad file descriptor)".
