Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

If you have other issue you can ask for a solution here or on github but please get the full vlc debug log and add it as a pastebin to your post. The procedure is explained here:
https://github.com/exebetche/vlsub/wiki/Troubleshooting

 winxp chrome

I downloaded this extension in windows xp 32bit, on chrome browser.
to download:
1. click download
2. wait for weird text to show up (the code)
3. right click on weird text, click save as, and save it at appropriate place (see below).
--
Enable the extension:
1. go to the folder: C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua/extensions
* if the extensions folder does not exist then create one.
2. paste the saved file in the extensions folder.
--
Open VLC and find the extension under menu 'View'.
.
.
Note- I accidently saved the file as "148752-vlsub_0-6.lua.txt" and it would not work. You have to remove the '.txt' such that the file name should be "148752-vlsub_0-6.lua" Then it worked fine. Or I suppose it could be named anything as long as it ends with a '.lua'

I created this account just to say this. I hope it helps someone out there

 Can't find vlc subfile

 by acocle on: Sep 17 2012

Score 50%

Hi,

First of all, I am not tech savy.

I am on Windows 7, I have VLC and use it by default for all my videos.

Since I couldn't find the vlc subfile /lua/extensions by following your explanations, but found the folder (C:\Users\Antoine\AppData\Roaming\vlc), I created the folder C:\Users\Antoine\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua

I downloaded the lua file and saved it in
C:\Users\Antoine\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua\extensions

Note: I have made sure it is not saved as a .txt (I had to change that manually, so painful with windows 7!)

Now, when I launch a file in vlc, I go in "View" but can not find VLSub there (or anywhere in vlc for that matter).

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

Antoine

 not .rar compatible?

is it possible for this to work with .rar files? I like to play my videos directly from the archived file so I don't have to extract it, except this extension opens and closes instantly when playing a video through .rar

I've lost some of my hair to make it work on my PC without any result. The same for my old mac.
Now I have a new mac, I try again, and it still doesn't work.
The text is copied in a .lua extension in the path described below.
But what's next ? How to use it ? Nothing is happening !

 Be careful with Chrome

If you are downloading the file using Chrome and the option "Save as", Chrome will add some text string to the file (smthg like "saved from..."). This string makes the file doesn't work properly so make sure you are using the original one.
