Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

If you have other issue you can ask for a solution here or on github but please get the full vlc debug log and add it as a pastebin to your post. The procedure is explained here:
https://github.com/exebetche/vlsub/wiki/Troubleshooting

Changelog:

2014-09-12
Fix error with http 301 redirection

2014-08-19

There is no error in your debug log, so I think the file isn't at the right place. Check if you have something in :
C:\Users\Jerry\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua\extensions
C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions

How did you install it, manually or with the installer? Because someone report a problem with the installer and I updated it it yesterday so maybe you could give it an other try.

 Win 8 saving fix?

 by BTKL on: Aug 30 2013

Hi. Love the add-on, but recently it's been a few more mouse-clicks to add subs for me. You mentioned that you did find a fix for the saving problem in win 8. When do you plan to release this?

Today I have to go to "show config" - "load only" - "save" before searching for subs. Is there a workaround that I can do for saving the settings?

I have VLSub (latest) and VLC 2.0.8 twoflower.

Ok, I made a modification. Could you give it a try?
It should work unless there is a non english character in your windows user name.

I do have non english characters in my name sadly. I did try to change the username, but it seems complicated on windows 8. Is there something I can do?

Yokay, I think that's it: now you can set the folder you want to use in the config menu directly.
Tell me if it works for you.

I modified the script just now, after your previous message. So please download the "new version" and try to download a subtitle to see if it fix this problem.
Thanks

Thanx for the fast reply. I still can't get this to work. When I try to save the config i get the following: "can't fount a suitable path to save config, please set it manually". I cant find a way to set it manually either.

I have to save the .lua in the programfiles(x86) folder to get it working. It will not work just putting it into AppData. Just tell me what you want me to do. I am on standby ;)

First, I would like you to give me your debug log, just to get the actual error message.

To set the path manually you have to edit the script with a text editor. You have to set the variable "conf_file_path". You ll find it at the beginning of the script after the licence and the long list of options. You can set any folder you want as long it doesn't contain non english character. Also don't forget to use double anti slash, like in the given example.

OK, so this is what I've done. Opened videofile - startet vlsub - tried to load sub - failed - opened config - failed to save - loaded sub successfully.

Hope this helps you. I am not great with coding, but did find the element you talked about (see below). Tried to change location to a external drive with only english characters. Can this work with external drive? Did not succeed, but that could as well be my fault. Where exactly should I put the new line? Should I replace everything between "}" and "local language"?

mess_err_conf_access ='Can\'t fount a suitable path to save config, please set it manually'
}
}

-- You can set the config file's directory path here
-- else the default vlc.config.userdatadir() is used
-- /!\ On windows no accentuated/special characters allowed /!\
-- ex:
-- local conf_file_path = "C:\\Documents and Settings\\vlsub"
local conf_file_path = nil

local languages = {
{'alb', 'Albanian'},

It should look like this:

Quote:

mess_err_conf_access ='Can\'t fount a suitable path to save config, please set it manually'
}
}

-- You can set the config file's directory path here
-- else the default vlc.config.userdatadir() is used
-- /!\ On windows no accentuated/special characters allowed /!\
-- ex:
-- local conf_file_path = "C:\\Documents and Settings\\vlsub"
local conf_file_path = "C:\\Documents and Settings\\a_directory\\an_other_if_you_want"

local languages = {
{'alb', 'Albanian'},

The path should be on one line only, (I set something to long so the web page jump a line automatically). Basically you ignore everything that start with "-- " (that's commentary) and you replace
local conf_file_path = nil
with any path you want, for example:
local conf_file_path = "C:\\a_folder\\vlsub"

I now think I understand how to alter the file like you say, but my problem is that the add-on wont start when I press the VLsub under view-option. I have tried to define two different locations with no luck.

This is the code in the file: http://pastebin.com/FUnLfVHB

This is the debug:
http://pastebin.com/u97k6Jre

Strange that this should not work. Worked fine in previous versions :(

Ok, this time it tested it more thoroughly on different platforms with different configurations.
FYI I use a Vlc variable named "sub-autodetect-path" to store the path to the configuration file, that you can also set with the Vlc config panel mode advanced in Video > Subtitles (last menu on the left).

My bad, I'm sorry I haven't test this option with the modification I made recently. I made more modifications now but didn't test them either because I'm working on something else.
You can try it but I don't guaranty it will work. It's about time I stop putting wrong patch on top of each other and clean this mess :/
Will very soon do I promise.

With this one, it's not even showing in the view option. Take your time and fix it. I'll will wait for the update ;) Back to the old way :S

Thanx for taking the time trying.

Of course I made an error, that's fixed and it start again now. You can try again if you want.
I making something to allow people in your case (windows 8 + "foreign" characters in user name) to set a custom directory from the interface rather than editing the script.

I tried it now, with some problems. First of all I can't seem to save config like before. When I press save, nothing happens. Load only saves, but not working dir. Do I need to put dobbel backslash or something?

Debug: http://pastebin.com/J3p4st3r

Open VLC - open VLsub - config - put my path in - changed to load only - save - close.

Hello
Vlc doesn't find any .lua file in your extensions folders:
C:\Users\mon\AppData\Roaming\vlc\lua\extensions
D:\lua\extensions

You have to put the file in one of those. If you have already, check that the file has the right extension ".lua" (not ".txt").

I fixed this issue, download and install the file again and now you should have a the subtitle file decompressed again.

 Downloading too much (watching series)

Apparently os.org made a security limiting the number of subtitles you can download unless you're logged in... Annoying while watching series... Would it be possible to add some sort of login feature to the config?

Tnx, in advance...
