Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

 VLSub Mac - Subtitles not loading

 by nrankin on: Aug 8 2013

Score 50%

Hi, thanks for this extension.

The latest version won't load the subtitles on to the video. When i check the video directory, there are also no subtitle files saved. In the past, this extension has worked fine, but it seems there is an error with the directory not being found (see pastebin log below). Could you look into fixing this please?

http://pastebin.com/8CFmRr

Using VLSub v 0.9.8 on Mac OS X v10.8.4, VLC v2.0.7 (Intel 64bit).

Thanks

 bad argument #1 to 'gfind'

Hi,

How weird everyone tells me this extension perfectly works, although I can't get any subtitle.

Here are the logs : http://pastebin.com/u97y2Vx1

I'm using the latest VLSub with the latest VLC (2.0.7) on Windows 8

Thanks for the support, and nice job (I heard :P)

It seems the extension didn't get any response from the server, that's why you get this error. You should try again, maybe it was maintenance or something. I'll add a verification to avoid silent error like that.

Still does not work :(
In the http_req method, the call to string.match returns nil when trying to log in. I don't know much about lua or XML/RPC, but it seems I can't get the complete response of the login request, so string.match does not parse it correctly. All opensubtitles returns seems to be the html status. See the logs with some more messages :

Weird indeed. I think openSubtitles send the full response but you get the first line only. I can't see the reason why. Do you have anything that could mess with your network, like a firewall, antivirus or proxy? Or maybe a very very low MTU? I don't think so, but maybe you noticed other problems that could lead us to the solution. For now it's a mystery to me.

Yeah ok, Avast is blocking the response, I don't know why. So it wasn't your program's fault. Truly good job, and thank you for your help.

There is no sign of the download starting or any error in your log, are you sure that's the right one?

I understood, there's probably a problem as the extension try to save the subtitles file. I just try the extension on Windows 8 and it works fine, but I noticed they put restrictive default rights to access file again, maybe that's your problem.
I need you to send me your debug log again but after you reproduce the error:
- you start vlc with the debug command like before
- try to download your subtitles again
- when the problem appear (the download bar progress stop), you can close vlc and send me the new debug log like you did
(...OR follow the steps describe in the 2nd section of Troobleshooting page "For any other problem")

Mmh yes, there are specials characters in the name of the subtitles files. For now special characters aren't supported on windows with vlc lua extension. You have to set "Manual download" in config menu and use the link displayed to get this one I'm afraid.

You copied the web page from github, not the actual script. Get the file vlsub.lua from inside the archive using the download link from this page or the "Dowload zip" button from github, and replace the file you created.
