Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

If you have other issue you can ask for a solution here or on github but please get the full vlc debug log and add it as a pastebin to your post. The procedure is explained here:

Hello

Thank you for you translation, that's great. One thing though, html entities (like "& quote") are needed on the help message because that's an html widget but not intrepreted elsewhere, so I removed them. Could you please check I didn't make mistakes?

For the crash on OSX I'm aware of it. I filled a bug report to the vlc team and they fixed it, but the fix will be available in the next Vlc release only.

Maybe I'll patch Vlsub myself before that, because I don't know how much work they have left on the new release (I just need to remove the checkboxes).

Thank you again, bye.

 VLSub suggestion

Hey, how you doing?
I know I'm sending lots of messages, but I promisse you it's the last one :)

I was wondering about the possibility of assigning hotkeys for VLSub. Maybe it's already possible and I don\'t know how.
Well, my programming skills are really low, but I can't figure it as a hard thing to do.

For instance, when I press a key, it opens the VLSub window.

Or maybe a hotkey to auto-download a subtitle, using a preset config. I set a default language for my subtitles and when I press a button it will automatically download the subtitle calculated by hash, and if it's not synchronized or something I can just press it again and it will download the next one, until it fits with the movie.

Lazy people stuff, but stills a nice idea :D

Hi again :)

You can send me as many messages as you want, no problem, especially with good ideas ;)

I think that's a great idea and I'm reaaly willing to add it but I just came back from holyday and I had no time to dig into it yet.

I just found this 2 posts but I don\'t know if there is a solution for this in it:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=78902&p=259776
http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=100885&p=364103

I check that and let you know what I find ASAP.

Bye

I reply to you last message here because the site refuse to send it saying "Don't spam other user" XD

So, no setting the "intLang" variable is not enough to modify the interface language, you have to use the config panel, but it will crash on OSX. I will make a patch very soon so you can use it.

Bye

 VLSub-0.9.5 Lua errors and warnings

 by mederi on: Jul 13 2013

Score 50%

http://pastebin.com/5rKtJvDa

If I press [Show config] button, the "What to do with subtitles:" drop-down widget is empty [ ]. If I press [Save] button, it does not create "vlsub_conf.xml" file, but if I [Cancel] and then go back to [Show config], suddenly the "What to do with subtitles:" drop-down widget [Load and save] has all 3 options. Now if I press [Save] several times!, the settings are successfully saved in the "vlsub_conf.xml" file.
[Search translations] just like setting other than English language does not work.
Where will the downloaded language, for example "fre.xml", be saved? Or the downloaded language content will be saved in the "vlsub_conf.xml" file?

Testing environment: Windows XP, VLC-2.0.x;
Necessary changes in VLSub to get it to work (known UTF-8 read/write problem, if there are special characters in a path):
508> vlc.config.userdatadir() >> "c:\\vlsub"
1151> vlc.config.homedir() >> "c:\\vlsub"
1218> vlc.config.cachedir() >> "c:\\vlsub"
1220> vlc.config.cachedir() >> "c:\\vlsub"

There could be also an easy way for manual installation of a different language rather then connecting to the Internet. What about a "vlsub_translations" folder right near the "vlsub_conf.xml"? Then the dialog-box could search for available languages in that folder and display them in the "Interface language:" drop-down widget. Then only [Search translations] could connect to the Internet to find new updates. Or something like that.

Hi Mederi

_Show config_
Download behaviours display: I think this is fixed.

_Search translations_
I think it's an ssl certificates problem. I ran the test on an outdated xp version and had the same problem then I export the github related CA certificates with firefox and export them on windows using "certmgr.msc" and it works now.
Maybe just update Windows will do the trick as well. I also read that you can put your CA certificates in %vlcuserdatadir%/ssl/certs, that would be more convenient, but I had no luck with that (https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=52751&p=173652#p173640)

Multiple click needed to save config was probably to this bug as well.

_Use "c:\\vlsub" for conf file_

Nope, I don't store anything on the system root, that's not clean. You can set the "conf_file_path" (l. 53) with a custom path where the conf. file will be saved if you have trouble. Beyond that I'll wait for the Vlc team to fix the utf8 problem, if they feel like it.

_Translation files considerations_
The translation is stored in the conf. file ("vlsub_conf.xml"). I considered your solution but I don't like software saving a lot of file on my computer when I don't need them (translations or else). So I stick to one file only, with just the chosen translation inside. For now, the manual solution is to add the content of the translation file in "vlsub_conf.xml" between this tag:
<translation>
...
</translation>

Translation files are available here:
https://github.com/exebetche/vlsub/tree/master/translations

Maybe I'll provide a more convenient manual solution later...

Regards,

Hi

I think last modifications should solve the problems you mentioned for:
- downloading translations
- setting translations manually
- use a directory not containing special characters for saving conf and everything

Let me know...

 Install Fails

 by MarshMellowed on: Jul 14 2013

Unfortunately the Windows Installer is not good on a 64bit Windows System. The stable release of VLC is only 32bit, therefor it installs into "Program Files (x86)" not "Program Files." The Windows Installer for this extension installs to the wrong location. But can be fixed if you are comfortable editing a .bat (fancy txt file.)
