Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

If you have other issue you can ask for a solution here or on github but please get the full vlc debug log and add it as a pastebin to your post. The procedure is explained here:

I can't reproduce your problem. Are you sure your folder isn't in "read only" mode? Can you manually create a file in this folder?
If you try to copy your video file on your desktop and launch it in Vlc from here, then download subtitles, does it work?

Also, please send me your log so I can understand what's wrong:
- Open Vlc and hit Ctrl+M
- Set "verbosity level" to 2
- Try again to download your subtitles like before
- When the error appears, copy all the logs from the messages windows
- Paste it on http://pastebin.com/ then click "Submit"
- Copy and send me the url in your adress bar (something like "http://pastebin.com/ABCD0127")

I'm on w7 and had the same problem. However the problem only occurs when I run the file through my external drive, no problems through desktop.

Here's the log:

Hello, I have the same problem, but it seems that the Greek characters are causing it. When the movie is not inside a path with greek characters the the addon works!

Here is my error log: http://pastebin.com/y5Z39UeK

 Network share issue

 by Lavento on: Apr 23 2012

Score 50%

I get the same error and I think it's network issue.

I try to play the content from my NAS (basic SMB share) and it tries to save the downloaded sub-file to that share. Somehow saving process omits the mapped letter.

ie. Z:\share becomes \share and it tries to read downloaded sub file:////share

reply to myself. It can download a sub file to share, but seems to corrupt it or doesn't unpack zip.
Same file downloaded drom opensubtitles directly and via VLsub are not same size.
opensubtitles.org and unpacked --> 27 Kb
via VLsub --> 19 Kb

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "\share\xx.sub". (%m)

Just to confirm, I do have a problem with network shares, even though I have assigned Full Control permissions to the account currently running VLC Media Player. Here is the log file:
lua warning: Error while running script C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\vlcsub.lua, function (null)(): ...m Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\vlcsub.lua:556: /Videos/TV Series/Dexter/Season 08/Dexter.S08E07.HDTV.x264-ASAP.srt.zip: No such file or directory

As you can see the plugin thinks the location of the media starts with /Video rather than \\NETWORKSHARE\Videos etc...

You have to mount your folder as a virtual drive for this to work.

I created a Git reporitory of this Plugin (release 0.6) and added a Windows installer. Check it out here: https://github.com/thePanz/VLCSub/downloads

Credits of the VLC plugin go to Guillaume Le Maout.

You have just solved my problem for finding subtitles with Mac as BS player not compatible.

Although...I am not computer savvy and not sure how to do it.

Could you please explain in a more simple way how to download VLCsub to my Mac?

Thanks in advance

 Subtitles with NFS

 by meencantaelspam on: Jul 1 2012

Score 50%

Hello.

I can't get works this extension with NFS.

My computer: Ubuntu 11.10 32 bits. VLC 1.1.12

The extensions works great when the file is in my computer. But when the movie is in nfs-mounted directory, the zip file downloaded is 0 kb lenght. The extensions download the .zip file with 0 kb lenght, then tries to extract the .srt and fails.
The directory is mounted with rw option, and I check that my user can write on it.
I test with wifi and wired connection. The movie can be played great too.

I know that maybe this is not a problem with the great extension, but perhaps you can give me a light with it.

Thank you for you time, and sorry for my english.

Best regards

Sebastián
