Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- click on the download button below
- save the archive and extract the file "vlsub.lua"
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

/!\ Troubleshooting /!\

If you have other issue you can ask for a solution here or on github but please get the full vlc debug log and add it as a pastebin to your post. The procedure is explained here:
https://github.com/exebetche/vlsub/wiki/Troubleshooting

Could you be more specific on the problem? I tested it on xp, 7 and Ubuntu, works fine for me.
Could you also check your log:
- open vlc
- hit Ctrl+M and set verbosity level on 2
- retry and watch for a lua warning/error "error while running script..."

What is your OS ? Which version of Vlc you are using?

It helps. It seems a bug with file path again, not complicated. But I need to get a x64 to test and debug rather to do that through this page.

 Bug with vlc 2.0 on windows

 by exebetche on: Feb 25 2012

Score 50%

Ok, the problem came not from version 64 of windows but the version 2.0 of vlc. For now the extension will just propose a link to download the file manually.
If you are not in this config: vlc 2.0 + windows, I encourage you to set the option "justgetlink" (at line 82) to false to get the normal behaviour (the subtitles load automatically).

First, load the file which you are looking for subtitles. Then start the extension by clicking on the menu "View" then "VLSUB".

Let the first method "research by hash" selected, select the language and click on "Go", select a subtitle then click on "ok".
The subtitle is downloaded in the same folder as the video file and automatically loaded with the video.

If you have no luck with this one, you can try the second method ("reseach on IMDB", then click on "Go").

I will soon provide a multi language support for the interface and a mini setup menu, to choose your default language and other stuff.
For now you can edit the file with a text editor and set the value of the "default_language" variable in the "Global variables" section, replace "fre" by "spa" in your case).

Regards,

This extension just search the site opensubtitles.org using video hash or IMDB ID (the first result you see is from imbd.com). If no one uploaded subtitles for your movie, no result.

With VLC you can decal subtitles with the keys 'G' and 'H'. But this does'nt correct the file (meaning next time you'll play it, it will be desynchronyse as well).
For a more permanent way, you can either try to find an other subtitle that correspond to your movie or resynchronise the file yourself with a tool like Subtitle workshop (if you do that, would be nice to share it with opensubtitle.org).

 Mac OS X debug

Ok, it's "Window", not "View" (that was a translation from my french version of Vlc). If it don't appears in it there's an error with your config.
Check if you have the latest version of VLC (HELP > About). If you do, that's probably an problem with Mac OS X. Like I said I didn't test this one, just xp, 7 and Ubuntu, but if you get me the error message, maybe I could find what's wrong:
- open a terminal (in /Applications/Utilities)
- type vlc --verbose=1 and press enter
- look for a message starting with:
lua generic warning: Error loading script ...

Thanks for your comment, a little encouragement is always appreciated.
I really try to fix this, but I have no solution so far: as soon as the script open a file, Windows considered it as "locked" by Vlc and deny access to remove it, even from the script itself!
I'll ask the "Vlc team", maybe they'll come up with something...
