Description:

I've been attracted to the new look of google.com and all the web apps in their arsenal. So I figured it should make a pretty good looking gnome-shell theme. Hope you like it!

I included the switches from 0rAX0's Nord theme because they're just so easy on the eyes and I couldn't find any "switches" on google's apps.

Installation:

Put the 'Google-Shell' folder inside ~/.themes and use a theme-selector extension to select it. OR, backup your /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme folder and replace everything inside it with this theme, press ALT+F2 and type 'r'

You also need 'Droid Sans' or 'Open Sans' fonts.

*NEW* I've included a darker overview theme for darker tastes. Just backup the original files and overwrite with the dark files!

Changelog:

V 1.1 25Sep11

-Changed Overview to a dark shade instead of light.

-Added texture to bottom panel, dash, workspaces, modals, and search results.

-Changed Workspace Switcher Arrows.

-Minor tweaks to padding and App-hover.

-New Preview Image!

V 1.2 26Sep11

-New Preview Image!

-Fixed inconsistency with hover and select border on panel.

-Shrunk images to reduce package size.

-Open Sans added as alternative font.

-Fixed 'invisible time' in calendar popup.

-Changed App-Well font color.

V 1.3.2 28Sep11

-Extended Workspace and Modal background for larger resolutions and workspace switcher.

-Included Dark Theme and instructions.

V 1.3.3 28Sep11

-Changed Overview Close-Window image to represent 'Chrome' close-tab button.

V 1.4 02Oct11

-Fixed Overview and Search Results unreadable lettering.

-Now Compliant with gnome-shell 3.2. Yay!

V 1.5 15Oct11

-Really actually reworked to comply with gnome 3.2. No more freezing!

V 1.5.1 19Oct11

-Fixed Running App effect.

I thought maybe it was the Activites Button extension I use, but when I turned it off I couldn't reproduce your problem.

Are you saying that it shifts when you hover over it? I use Fedora 15 so unfortunately I can't test it under Ubuntu, but if it's a hover problem then it might be an inconsistency between the panel-button padding.

Are you using the Droid Sans font?

it looks the same.
the "Activities" Text seem to start from extreme left edge without any marginal gap (which is seen on the extreme right where our username is seen) symmetric alignment seems to be disturbed. may be with 11.10 beta thats so...
after all the updates i did, apart from gnome-shell default and a few others that have been updated and re-posted, i find this shift.
may not be an error from your side but here at 11.10 it may be...

Or it may be something to do with 3.1.92 because I'm using 3.0.1. Either way I can't test it just yet. Thanks for the info, though so I'm not surprised when it happens to me!

I think that's the problem. My old GNOME-Shell themes did that too, on the new version.

Good to know. Probably gonna have to port it with the new default theme css then. Maybe just the panel portion, though.

Fixed this bug finally. It's a problem with 3.0 and 3.2 css handling padding for the panel differently. Enjoy!

 Orange panel at bottom

In case some of you don't like the orange in the message tray, here's a fix:

Replace lines 1126 & 1127 with:

background-color: white;

in the gnome-shell.css file.

 Colors...

Hi! You had a really good idea and I enjoy the theme, but (for me) it feels like the dash and workspace switcher should had the same look and feel of the top bar. Maybe you could consider doing a second version taking this as a suggestion.
Either way, excellent work :)

That's a good idea. The white is going for a match to the whiteness of the google website, but maybe I could make a 'blackle.com' version as well, huh?

 Little bug

by timvdwest on: Sep 27 2011

There is a problem with the workspace changer on the right in the shell, the background doesn't extend all the way to the right on my setup (1920x1080 res). Here is a screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14569277/missing_bg.jpg

Other than that I really love the theme, it's very clean and gives gnome shell a little something different. Thanks!

Hah, I thought I made them big enough for most resolutions, but here you go... http://db.tt/W9K3z0Ui

Download that and put it in the gnome-shell folder. Overwrite the other one of the same file name.

I haven't figured out how to repeat the background yet, otherwise this wouldn't happen.

Theme breaks Shell with Gnome 3.2

This theme makes the shell freeze when trying to search for apps in Gnome 3.2. I applied to provided patches to no avail.

That's unfortunate. You're the second person I've heard have problems with this. I'm using 3.2 only in VirtualBox and have had no problems myself. I'll look into it when I get a chance.

I've finally updated this shell theme to not lock up on 3.2. Try it out!
