Description:

Aaaand another extracted one ;-) - I hope the kde guys will not sue me for this like the conectiva gays ehh guys.

A precompiled tarball with some cute Makefilemodifications and a SuSE RPM is ready for download here:

http://www.marcooo.de/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=653&mode=&order=0&thold=0

Maybe the RPM will work with some other distis who install KDE3 in /opt/kde3.

 I don't get it

Maybe I'm being stupid here, but ...

Having compiled keramik out of CVS previously, I don't see how this will work. I download your tar.gz file, untar it etc, and go to kstyles directory. First thing I notice - no configure script. So I think - doesn't need configure, I'll just run make ... error Makefile.in requires configure.in. Is there something I'm missing. Wouldn't it be easier for people just to download the kdelibs package from kde, and compile the kstyles portion themselves? At least then they'd get the required configure script.

Alternatively (for Mandrake users), to install the latest texstar rpm for kdelibs that includes keramik out of the box?

...is : precompiled tarball ... i just extracted the /kstyles tree to show the modifications that is needed to make keramik go through the make process - in fact the cvs kdelibs3 wont compile keramik at all (no subirs set in cvs version)

mandrake: i don't know anything about that disti - sorry .. i'm a suse addict and the RPM works fine on every SuSE KDE3 box. maybe also works on some other /opt/kde3 boxes ...

excellent, but unfortunately i tried to install the theme and ran into the same problems...

i'm using kde3 on debian
(http://www.geniussystems.net/KDE3 Experimental/)

but i'm just not sure where i should copy the folder to.

i'm sure the guys at evera...um.. conectiva wont sue you for promoting their excellent themes and icons. they are the nicest people (who may perhaps 'nicely' ask you to remove the upload if he's unhappy) -- but i'm sure they strongly encourage our support of their lovely work and are very happy with what you've done for us and them ;-)

like my BS?

 a hint ..

to make that tarball work:

in case u got the kdelibs on your box just copy the included files of the tarball into your existing /kdelibs-3.0/ dir and overwrite the existing ones (don't blame me for wrecking your precompiled stuff .. *gg) go to the subdir /kdelibs-3.0/kstyles/ and start a make there .. maybe you want to change some kde3 prefix paths before. finally do a make install.

or just grep the kstyle from cvs .. put it in your /kdelibs-3.0/kstyles/ - edit the makefiles in kstyles and keramik folder and start a ./configure.

ooorr .. just extract the files from rpm and put them in the right place for your disti ...

hope that solves all your problems ...

not wanting to labour the point

The point is that kstyles can't be compiled from your tarball, because there is no configure script. Agreed, the kdelibs package from cvs does not automatically compile keramik, however, it is very simple to go into the keramik directory and run make and make install in that directory. However, in order to do that you need to have run a configure script (as well as compiling other parts of the package that the keramik style relies on).

 whats your problem..

...dude .. i just contributed this to the community and as far as i can see aprox 180 d/load of that rpm and 80 of that tarball .. and btw ... in that article on my page is written what the tarball contains. the rpm is installable on every suse disti without and problems and with a little bit knowledge everybody would be able to do the right thing with the tarball.

and btw .. it's nice to see that i received a lot of mails from people who think this posting was great because they just did what i have written in the thread ...

I don't like the comment about the 'Conectiva gays' ..

You should be thankful for such a great iconset.
(Everaldo, you rule! :)

And Keramik isn't ready so why would you use an unfinished style?

Having patience is a good thing (tm)..

..and i don't like to get forced to remove some really 'wanted' iconset from my site by some 'sue' stuff.

keramik: why? easy.. because it looks great - and runs nice and stable here .. so? why not?

patience is a good thing of course ... but only the early bird catches the worm (uhhh bad translation...lol).. nevertheless .. you r free to use it .. or not .. or is somebody forcing you by saying: INSTALL IT !! NOOOOWWW !! ;-)

totally agree with you.
few months ago he posted multiple screenshots of his icon theme but with nothing to download. whenever somebody posted crystal set icons in kde-look.org he would basically bitch at them.

i even told him in his comments that there's nothing wrong posting it since in fact he never DID actually submit anything concrete in the first place. then i started getting email messages from the guy with the bodies saying "fucky you" all the time.

and the 'i'll sue you' thing is just plain stupid

my conclusion? yeah he's gay ;-)
