Hi everyone; I have a problem with Qdvdauthor, Mandvd; it seems to be a generalized problem with Debian. I got the latest version of Qdvdauthor, I got ffmpeg, lame, .... I don't know how to fix it. Do other Linux distributions have the same problem?

Thanks in advance!

This is what my log file shows.

[SOLVED] Atention Debian Etch users!

1- If you have this problem, it means you already have qdvdauthor installed; then you have to follow this steps to solve the problem:

*from konsole logg as root; then apt-get remove ffmpeg qdvdauthor.
*then from /usr/share delete qdvdauthor.
*then from http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/download.pl?arch=i386&file=pool%2Fmain%2Ff%2Fffmpeg%2Fffmpeg_0.cvs20060823-8_i386.deb&md5sum=927acf36c2887fd0137aa0eb0df31725&arch=i386&type=main
download the package ffmpeg and install it from the .deb.(do not install it from konsole or it won't work!).
*After you got installed ffmpeg form the .deb package; go to konsole and install dvdauthor (apt-get install dvdauthor).

It should work but only if you followed this steps.

2- If you don't have dvdauthor installed in your system; the first thing you have to do is download the package ffmpeg form the address above. And after that install dvdauthor. Other wise you will have problems with ffmpeg.

 not a pretty app

Sorry, but has anyone told you that this app is... rather displeasing to the eyes with its ridiculous buttons and its bright colors?

With the source available there is little to no excuse for a comment like this. Fix it yourself, offer your assistance with the project, or GTFO. That's pretty much the way I see it.

I agree and I do think its pretty. The big buttons making easier for people with poor vision to use. I have great vision and still like them. Its a great app over all. The author is one of the most dedicated programmers I've encountered and deserves more than that comment. Taken in the overall usefulness of his work, that's what matters.

 Sound Issue

 by x40sw0n on: Aug 1 2007

Score 50%

I have been digging around but I haven't been able to nail down exactly what the issue is; first of all the app works almost exactly as expected with one minor exception; sound.

I run out the video and framerates and everything is perfect but as an example, I compiled some episodes of My Name is Earl and almost died laughing because it sounded more like an episode of the chipmunks.

I am assuming that since everything else works, it is just my resample rate or some setting in the sound side.

The original files are kind of a strange size but the are proportional for 16:9; XviD but I don't recall sound format off hand. AC3 I believe.

System is an openSuSE 10.2 X86_64 build, running 1gb of ram on an Athlon64 3700.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

X-

 It's Qt an app?

by bitcrazy on: Oct 7 2007

Hi there,
this is a QT3 app, not a KDE app, isn't it?
So, shouldn't it be on qt-apps.org? Don't missunderstand me, but your app doesn't fit into the look'n'feel of KDE. That's the reason why I think, it should be on qt-apps.org.
Has nothing to do with your program at all.

Oh but it does. It'll use the default KDE file dialogs if in KDE. I am also detecting the Desktop directory used by KDE.

 no valid video file

 by rs250 on: Feb 25 2008

Hello out there

after a long while I wanted to author a DVD. What surprise - qdvdauthor looked new and nice - BUT - it wouldn't accept any input files. I did as I always did - create a mpeg2 file with avidemux_gtk - option - auto - dvd. mpeg2 files created that way always worked fine for qdvdauthor. But now, in the add file dialog the thumpnails only hold the word 'error' and when clicking them, nothing happens. I cannot find any log or error message, so I have no idea why qdvdauthor doesn't want these files any more. Any suggestions?

greeting to everyone
Hans-Peter

Make sure your MediaBackend is set up correctly [ Tools->Setup ].

It works like a charm on my Computr.

I guess my backend is ok. The problem seems to stick in the Add / Organize Dialog. I can't select a video in there. It seems to get stuck in there. If I use the right-button-in-the-source-toolbar-method everything works fine.
btw: great piece of work. Congratulations to you.

Hans-Peter
