 Full dark version please

Amazing theme, but I'm a dark theme lover. Nearly the same think with a dark background would be amazing.

 need help do tweak dark menus

Hello. I would really like to have an option for dark menus. I'm trying to tweak your theme, but I'm having a hard time applying the changes I'm making in the css-configuration-files. Reloading the theme only shows the gtk2 changes I've made. I have to logout and login every time which is very annoying. I'm sure there is a better way to do this. Any help, please?

Usually all I have to do is to close and open an application again to see the changes. This varies on distributions I've noticed. (Works fine in ArchLinux for me.) Otherwise restart gnome-shell. ALT+F2 and then type r to restart it instead of logging in and out.

If you're not using gnome-shell you can try to restart whatever you're using. ALT+F2 (or "Run" from any menu) and then type your-window-manager --replace

If you do get a dark menu version of the theme then I'd love to see it. I've tweaked an old version of the theme (when it had dark menus) to fix a couple of oddities in GTK2, but haven't looked at GTK3 yet. Overall, the theme is great, but I think the move to light menus on the dark theme was the one bad choice.

Really? Great! Now I just need to go to all the hassle of installing a suitably new version of Unico on openSUSE and Fedora :\

 dark menus :)

Thank you for being so responsive. One thing is a bit out of place though with dark menus. It's the state entries you've made recently. For example the sound indicator (using unity) has buttons which get white when you hover over them.

Thank you again for the great work! Your theme is by far my favorite.

Unity is quite a mess right now. Barely any documentation about how to theme it. But if you could provide a screenshot maybe I could take a look at it. (But I can't test my possible fixes.) :P

I believe this is not only a Unity problem. Here is what I did:

added

.menu *:hover {
background-color: shade (@menubar_color, 1.08);

to gtk-widgets.css

and changed

text[NORMAL] = @selected_fg_color (it was fg_color)

in the "murrine-menuitem-text-is-fg-color-workaround" section of the gtkrc file.

With these changes everything seems to be ok so far. :)

Your fixes breaks a lot of other things. And maybe these dark menus weren't such a good idea anyways, because of so many application with bad gtk integration seems to break.

 theme not listed in gnome-tweak-tool

Hi, congratulations on your work. Outstanding themes.

I tried today to install the themes on a fresh ubuntu 11.10 and they does not appear in the theme list in gnome-tweak-tool.

Other themes are listed.

Any idea on how to find the bug ?

Sounds like you've installed the themes in the wrong folder and/or didn't close and re-open gnome-tweak-tool after you installed the themes.

Folder structure:
~/.themes/Zukitwo
~/.themes/Zukitwo-Dark
etc.

or

/usr/share/themes/Zukitwo
/usr/share/themes/Zukitwo-Dark
etc.

 Text contrast

 by MadFish on: Oct 21 2011

Grey text on grey background is not fun.
I'm tired of manually fixing text color to black on almost all recent themes - Adwaita, Elementary, Ambiance - all suffer from this disease. Where it all came from?
Please consider switching text color to pure black (#000000 instead of #3c3c3c). Staring at computer screen is already tiresome for eyes, no need to make it worse with bad contrast.

Putting the text color to black causes something that makes it look worse for me. I can't really explain it actually. Try adjusting your monitor's contrast/brightness. Make sure you can see each steps in this image: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TAT-cjPugxo/TOmkdbVtRZI/AAAAAAAAAF8/r7LVM7BDT8E/s1600/grayscale.jpg

Brightness/contrast settings on my monitor are absolutely fine, and I can see all the steps clearly.
My point, is that #000000 is more readable than #3c3c3c, and that's kinda obvious IMO. I don't understand, what can possibly go wrong with that, for me it's a clear improvement.

I'm just going to say what DanRabbit, the author of elementary gtk said:
"no, the black is too sharp of a contrast and it hurts your eyes after a while. Better to go with an almost-black."

I agree with him. It actually does that to me after trying. But this is very individual I guess. :)

I suggest making a variation (like Zukitwo-Contrast) with more contrast to allow user decide.
