Description:

KitchenSync is a synchronization application based on OpenSync. With KitchenSync you are able to synchronize cell phones, organizer, palms and other Personal Information Manager with KDE PIM (KAddressbook, KOrganizer, KNotes).

An Akonadi plugin is now ready to support KDE4 PIM. Check out http://www.opensync.org to get more information about KitchenSync's backend, OpenSync.

The source code is maintained in KDE's Playground: http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/playground/pim/kitchensync/. Use the following command to get a local copy:
svn co svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/pim/kitchensync

How YOU can help:
- any form of contribution on the coding of kitchensync is highly welcome
- a wiki/home page should be developed, currently hosted at opensync.org.
- all kind of feedback is very appreciated
- help out the guys from OpenSync because they don't manage to port the plugins

Changelog:

0.40.1
- fixed critical bugs in member class
- added logo on welcome page
- added packages for openSUSE

0.40
- first official KDE4 version of KitchenSync
- picked up the pre-version 0.40 to match with the current libopensync version

 Added a Backport to 0.22

Hi! Good to see someone else trying to improve the lacking situation of KDEPIM syncing.

Coincident to your efforts I took the kitchensync from KDE SVN and backported it to OpenSync 0.22 that is still being shipped by most distros (unlike OpenSync 0.3x, which is not). http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KitchenSync?content=132898

I'll keep an eye on the SVN and backport any changes which look interesting; and try to help too of course.

To any users out there: unless you are running a bleeding-edge distro, you probably want the OpenSync 0.22 compatible version I've linked to.

 Android

Hi, I used to use KitchenSync when using Windows Mobile. I plan to get an android device, will I be able to sync using you're software?

Hi skinpsv,

KitchenSync is a GUI for OpenSync. Thus, every peer supported by an OpenSync plugin is also supported in KitchenSync. Unfortunately I have not an exact idea of Android's support in OpenSync since the only two pages mentioning "Android" are quite useless:
- http://www.opensync.org/wiki/peers/openMoko

You better should contact the developer team to have a precise answer to this question (http://www.opensync.org/wiki/docs#Help). Feel free to update the wiki page afterwards! ;)

 Help me compiling from svn

I try to compile it from svn, but got the error:
$ make
[ 0%] Built target qopensync_automoc
[ 1%] Building CXX object libqopensync/CMakeFiles/qopensync.dir/callbackhandler.o
cc1plus: warnings being treated as errors In file included from /home/murz/temp/2010-09/sync/kitchensync/libqopensync/callbackhandler.cpp:22:
/usr/include/libopensync1/opensync/opensync.h:52: error: "__sun" is not defined
make[2]: *** [libqopensync/CMakeFiles/qopensync.dir/callbackhandler.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [libqopensync/CMakeFiles/qopensync.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

What does it mean and how can I solve this problem?

Hi Murz,

this is a known problem which seems to be (lib)opensync related. It is easy to solve by deleting the lines 52-54 in /usr/include/libopensync1/opensync/opensync.h

Kitchensync should then compile successfully. However, keep in mind that it will only launch with a blank config (delete ~/.config/opensync) because a bug in the member configuration will cause the app to crash, unfortunately! We did not find out yet how to fix it, help is welcome!

Did you try the latest svn? This issue should be fixed by now. I just removed the source tarball above and pointed the download link to the websvn until KitchenSync is really bug free.
