I forgot to say that I am not packager, and packages are made with "checkinstall", but they work. For all who do not know how to compile, or for those who do not want to install the packages needed for this.

I was not able to get this to work. an installation procedure would be nice. Even though I eventually got it to compile and run. It did not show any of my network interface (eth0 and wlan0) it just showed an empty box when I refresh nothing happens. Is this application just a frondend client for the wicd daemon? in which case do I still need to install wicd? or its comes included with the wicd daemon. I would appreciate some clarification in the installation procedure

My biggest issues concerning the wicd daemon is that installing it also pulls in the gtk client for wicd. I really don't know how the two can be reconciled.

Exactly, this is just a front-end, you will need the wicd daemon from your distribution.

There is an INSTALL file in the tarball which contains the instructions to compile. I can't add things such as "which packages does it depend on", because it's really distro specific.
Which leads me to:

On all the distributions I've tried, I have been able to install the deamon alone. Which one are you using?

I tried installing it again. This time I installed the wicd-daemon with aptitude --without-recommends install the wicd daemon without the gtk-client dep. I was able to compile the kde client and ran it fine. Thanks

I could substitute wicd-gtk in a while, very good job :)

well as you wish but...

other projects does this , just because if you compile \ install with cmake make make install you have the normal installation

if instead you use cpack ... it generate de packages , fedora ubuntu debian and morei guess even the targz

look at the documentation if you have time

Returning from sleep issue

Hello.
I have a problem with wicd-kde. It happens when computer returns from suspend to RAM mode, wicd-kde enters in a loop refreshing automatically wireless networks every few seconds. This also happened in previous versions of wicd-kde. This did not happen with wicd-gtk.
Kubuntu 10.04-10.10 _ 64bits

Could you be more specific? Does that mean that it triggers a full scan? Does it seem to wait for the previous scan to be completed? Does it happens even if the window is closed? The more info, the better.

When the computer wakes from sleep mode, in wicd-kde window exactly happens as if you press the "Reload" button approximately every 4 seconds, about five to ten times (Obviously, what I say happens without you press the "Reload" button). In each cycle, the access points are scanned, then are reordered from highest to lowest signal, and after about 2 seconds a new cycle starts again scanning the access points. As I said, the cycle is repeated a few times until it stabilizes and does not happen again. I honestly do not know if the problem can be caused to the large number of access points available in the area where I live, there are many (around 20).
My English is not all good. Please, if I have not been clear you tell me. I try to explain better.

Hi, sorry for the delay.
The really weird part is that you don't see that happening with wicd-gtk, because wicd-kde is just listening to the wicd daemon, just like the gtk client. Would you mind trying again the gtk client alongside wicd-kde, just to be sure?
Also you can check if the signals emitted by the daemon match what you see in the client by using
dbus-monitor --system | grep ScanSignal
This should tell you when the Start and End signals are send through dbus.

I have sent to you by private a video to show how the cycle begins and ends after sleep mode resume.
But I found the file that is executed after resume:
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/91wicd

And now I can reproduce it without sleep-resume, running:
$ /usr/share/wicd/daemon/suspend.py
$ /usr/share/wicd/daemon/autoconnect.py

As I had said, wicd-gtk does not go into that cycle. And funny thing, when the two are open at the same time, wicd-kde not have the problem.

I love it, I think all KDE users were waiting for something like this. Congrats!
One question: Could it be possible to have the app without borders and not in taskbar? Like for example kmix when you click it from systray. If not please give me directions to how to modify the code and make a diferent type of window. Thanks!
