 Problems with inputs (Firefox)

by simonbcn on: Sep 3 2010

Score 50%

There are websites where I can't see what I write in text inputs. The background and font color is white in several text inputs of some forms!!
And I am not able to disable this aspect of Firefox. In my Firefox profile folder there isn't any UserContent.css file. Please, help!
I think it is right that it changes the look of Firefox, but not the appearance of web pages, because this causes problems as I comment.

 Compiz settings

by johnnydvc on: Sep 3 2010

Score 50%

Hi.
Does the install-script change any settings concerning compiz? I don't know if its elegant-gnome or something else that keeps resetting my compiz settings to default. It seems to do happen when I update the theme pack.
But maybe I'm mistaken.
Thanks for this great theme, and the frequent updates. Awesome!

No, the pack doesn't change the compiz settings, but I think that I understand what you are talking about.

If i'm not mistaken, when you update the pack, you chose the "Reinstall the pack" menu entry in the Elegant GNOME app.

So let me explain how it works. When you install the pack, the utility creates the full dump of the gnome's settings, so that means, after removing the pack, all your gnome settings(including the compiz settings) will be restored to the values that were before the installing the pack. Actually that means, when you make some changes in the gnome settings after installing the pack, you will lose this changes as soon as you will choose the "Restore the previous settings", because the Elegant GNOME app will use the settings that it has backuped before.

When you choose the menu entry "Reinstall the pack", this is the same if you would choose the "Restore the previous settings" and then "Install the pack"

So the solution for you is to "Restore the previous settings" , then make the all changes you need for the compiz and then "Install the pack" :)

 Update procedure

Great theme!

Could could you please add a note as to what the update procedure is after you grab the latest version using apt-get update? Do I need to reinstall the theme? Logout and log back in? That would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Thanks for your comment, actually after update you should run the Elegant GNOME app and "Reinstall the pack", after that - restart the X server, that's it.

I'll add this information into the Description.

 Pidgin issues

by gateo on: Sep 4 2010

Score 50%

With 0.6 and 0.7 the "Idle" "Away" buddies show up in the same color as the pidgin window color making them almost unreadable.

The new mail info bar in pidgin also shows in a yellow background with white letter making it hard to read.

Is there a way to fix this?

Actually it doesn't depend on the theme.
The pidgin use his own color for the status and idle text. Solution is:
1. Confirm this bug http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/12572
2. Go to Tools -> Plugins. Enable the plugin "Pidgin theme editor". Then go to Tools -> Pidgin theme editor -> Edit buddylist theme.

About the infobar, it shouldn't have the yellow color. Can you make a screenshot, showing this problem?

Just an advice: please add in the description, for suse users, to install gksu, or make the script verify that gksu exists, else use the gnomesu command, because without that, pidgin, emesene, smplayer themes won't install correctly. The gksu way works better, because you don't have to enter the password every time a change has made. And another advice, on Suse, emesene themes are installed in /usr/lib/emesene/conversation_themes/default or in my case /usr/lib64/emesene/conversation_themes/default, so please make the script to check these folders if they exist or not. And also add in the description, in which repository, suse users can find the git murrine version (i just mentioned this in my other comment). Hope this makes your theme more enjoyable for suse users too :)

Wow, you've really surprised me. But i'm not really understand the Suse maintainers' logic :) Why they put the themes in /usr/lib :D

Ok, i'll make this.

Once I added the new theme.xml file, I have lost the icons from elegant gnome. Removing and re-installing the pack doesn't seem to help. How can I revert this chage?

The theme.xml file should be in your home directory as i wrote in the description. I don't think it affects the icons, the only thing it does, is that it makes your buddylist more readable. So i don't know what you did wrong.
So to make myself clear, the theme should be in /home/your_username/.purple/themes/theme_name/purple/blist
my example:
/home/istvan/.purple/themes/enyem/purple/blist/theme.xml

That is exactly what I did too. I did not have a themes directory, so I created the structure you listed. But the minute I did it, I noticed that the pidgin icon on the taskbar changed to its default look. Or does editing the buddylist using the theme editor plugin change things around?

BTW, I even blew away my .purple directory but that had no effect. Not sure what is going on now.

Well i think a pidgin theme reinstall should help. I don't know what went wrong, but the theme modified by the script is in /usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/. Make sure the pidgin theme is installed there (if a statusbk and a traybk folder exists in that folder it means that it is installed). But anyways remove and reinstall the pidgin theme. I have tried my theme on two systems and it worked without messing up the icons, so i don't know what went wrong in your case

 Suse way?

 by szaboistvan007 on: Sep 5 2010

Score 50%

Answering my question for those of you who are using OpenSuSE 11.3:
First of all: install gksu (suse uses gnomesu instead of gksu)
Second: add this repository to get the git version of murrine engine:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ketheriel/openSUSE_11.3/
Third: make an update (from a terminal with zypper up, or with the update manager, and be sure that the murrine engine updates).
After this you can do your setup like in description (cd to the unpacked folder, make suse, sudo make install, run elegant gnome from, Application->Utilities, install the pack and smile :) )
