InSight

   fully colorable?

GTK 2.x Theme/Style

Description:

Yes, it's another theme, based on Radiance/Ambiance. But this one is completely recolorable. (The tool-tip color corresponds to the panel and drop down menu colors!)

Needs new murrine engine. Recommends the Fain-Human icon set, and the Ubuntu font.

If you happen to find some bugs, please post them in the comments below. (Ideas, on how to solve them are appreciated.)

Changelog:

2011.01.13:
New version, with tweaked (original) nautilus breadcrumbs, a bit more dominant resize grip, edited default colors and a whole bunch of edits that happened in the last 6 months I can't remember.
The metacity theme was remade, now it has two versions:
- One that looks more clean, and looks more like the original Radiance.
- On that has stripes, and an icon on the active title in the style of the Platinum theme from the pre OS-X Macs. This theme also has shade, above, stick buttons too.
NOTE: Since this version has so many tweaks compared to the previous one, you might want to backup the old version, in case you would want to go back to that.
This version is might not be as colorable as the previous, sorry about that.

2010.07.03:
Me = EPIC FAIL!
Seriously... I actually reuploaded the previous version yesterday evening.
Here is the current one.

2010.07.02:
Uhh... there are a lot.
- Successfully hacked the scrollbar to hide the steppers, but at the same time don't mess up OpenOffice. Oh and the dots make a return. :)
- Added a transparent panel bg, which while adds a gradient to it, but it's still recolorable.
- Added a nicer close button icon (thanks Zuki theme :)
- Turned the scale slider in to a small circle
- Nicer buttons
- Some little nautilus hacks (side panel, breadcrumbs)
- and last but not least: RGBA! for anyone who's in to that

 Looking great

I think I've found mt new default theme :D

Very nicely put together- pretty and very usable, especially with RGBA enabled. The customizable colors work pretty well too. The only thing I miss is the breadcrumbs style for Nautilus Elementary.

Thanks

version you posted yesterday. Still no breadcrumbs, rgba(though the current theme looks fantastic with rgba enabled via Gnome Color Chooser).

I've seen it happen with a couple of others, where people have trouble updating the attached files in Gnome-look. So maybe you're uploading the correct file but Gnome-look is still pointing to the old one?

Anyway, even without native rgba and nautilus elementary mods, your theme looks just fantastic(especially the Ambient version).

Nope, it's most definitely the new version now. If it really looks the same for you, you might want to delete the theme from your ~/.themes folder, and readding.

The breadcrumbs are NOT made for Nautilus Elementary, just plain old Nautilus, cause that's what I use. (Check screenshots, they are not normal looking buttons, like they were in the previous version.)

I personally don't really approve pixbuff in a theme, it makes it render slower, and sometimes even makes it more hard to change colors. (Not to mention it'll make the theme archive bigger with all those images.) And well making pixbuff breadcrumbs for Nautilus Elementary not only brakes breadcrumbs in plain Nautilus, but it'll most likely have a fixed background color.
So my theme (except for the gradient on the panel and the close button icon) is completely rendered by the theme engine, and not from several images.

On the other hand I'm currently trying out a newer, more bubble like stlye for breadcrumbs. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v55/Barmunk/Kpernykp-35.png (That's still not pixbuff d: ) What do you think?

ps. If you use it with a different color settings then the 3 defaults I provided could you post a screenshot? I'm curious of what colors would other ppl like.

OK, that's probably the reason then.
I'm using Nautilus Elementary, so the breadcrumbs won't show up on my computer.
No matter, the rest of your theme looks awesome enough for me to stick with it.

The 'bubble' crumbs look pretty good though.

As for the colors, I think it's probably the first time I haven't changed the colors in a theme- your defaults look just right to me, blending in pretty well with the rest of my desktop.

Screenshots just the same

The only thing I changed was the Font, to Droid and Liberation(at size 9,10) though URW Gothic(8) looks really great, I have a bit of trouble reading some stuff especially in transparent menus. Droid seems much more readable, especially when leaning back in my chair(away from the screen).

Man I find myself liking this theme better the more I use it. Great work, buddy.

Weird... But like I said, the problem is on your end. I just redownloaded for the third time, and it's still the new one.

I don't really know why, but if you want the new one, I suggest you
1. change your theme to something completely different
2. Go to /home/YOURUSER/.themes
3. Delete the folders: InSight, InSight Ambient and InSight Grass
4. Download the theme again (try saving it to a different place / or different name maybe?)
5. Try Install it then in gnome appearance settings

Wait... wait... Before you delete them, you might want to make a copy of both InSight and InSight Ambient if you end liking the new one less. d:

I already tried deleting the folders and replacing them. Didn't seem to make much difference.
You're right, the problem gotta be at my end, since this install has a ton of 'testing' PPAs, compiled-from-source packages and a lot of manual tweaks(I have no idea what all I've messed up), and is probably very different from a clean install.
But as I said, no biggie. I can live without the breadcrumbs(they're mostly eyecandy anyway, and the buttons are rather pretty too), what really matters is an overall pleasing environment, not too harsh on the eyes or distracting but not too bland/boring either, and above all should be usable with all the major apps. And for all these, I think this theme feels just right to me.

Thanks.

I'm loving this theme but I really don't like that line at the top of active windows.
Dunno why, just looks a bit ugly but I can't figure exactly where to disable it.
I have commented out some of the lines that seem related but the theme won't load after altering anything.
