Description:

Kexi is a visual database app builder. It can be used for designing database applications, inserting and editing data, performing queries, and processing data. Forms can be created to provide a custom interface to your data. All database objects – tables, queries, forms, reports – are stored in the database, making it easy to share data and design.

Kexi is considered as a long awaited Open Source competitor for Microsoft Access, FileMaker and Oracle Forms. Its development is motivated by the lack of Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools for database systems that are sufficiently powerful, inexpensive, open standards driven and portable across many operating systems and hardware platforms.

Kexi designed to work well not only on KDE but also on GNOME and other environments. It should be usable also without running KDE Desktop on Linux/Unix, MS Windows and Mac OS X platforms (support for the latter two is planned to be re-added).

KEXI TEAM IS LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK, DEVELOPERS, TESTERS, AND SUPPORT

Request new features or fixes for Kexi at https://www.bountysource.com/teams/kexi

-----------------------------------------------

Note: Versions 1.0-2.3 and have been released within KOffice, 2.4 and next versions are a part of the Calligra suite, successor of KOffice. Users are not forced to install all the Calligra packages to use Kexi.

Documentation should be available with the Linux Kexi package. If this is not the case in your distribution, the newest documentation is at http://userbase.kde.org/Kexi/Handbook

 make error

by hoernerfranz on: May 4 2004

Score 50%

hmm,
I'm getting this:
/usr/qt/3/include/qptrlist.h: In member function `void
QPtrList::deleteItem(void*) [with type = KexiPart::DataSource]':
/usr/qt/3/include/qvaluevector.h:130: instantiated from here
/usr/qt/3/include/qptrlist.h:150: invalid use of undefined type `struct
KexiPart::DataSource'
kexipartmanager.h:44: forward declaration of `struct KexiPart::DataSource'
make[4]: *** [kexipartmanager.lo] Error 1

- looks to me like a qt issue ?
(using qt 3.3.0 here, kde 3.2.2)

Please don't post 3 the same questions.
What is your gcc version (gcc --version)? What's your Linux distribution?

I am also SuSE user...

tried:

export KDEDIR=/opt/kde3
export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt3

./configure

(no arguments needed, AFAIK)

I am almost sure your error is not due to lack of plugins.

 feature suggestion

by lassel on: Jul 10 2004

Score 50%

Kexi don't have any 'Import' or 'Export' features (correct this if I'm wrong).

If Kexi has features to convert other databases (example MDB) to Kexi's own database and to covert Kexi databses to other databases, Kexi is more practical and compatibility with other programs and databases.

I hope you do these features to future's versios.

1) altering existing table is not yet available (probably will be for beta5), because if you have already data entered in a table, it's not easy to alter the table

2) template icons on startup are now just for demonstration

what is wrong here nearly every program i try to compile from kde-apps.org will fail to make.
I m here with a mandrake9.2 and kde3.2.2
i do a configure --prefix=/usr
then
make
at the end i get this:
/bin/sed: kann /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.la nicht lesen: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make[4]: *** [libkexidb.la] Fehler 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/home/olaf/Documents/downloads/kexi/kexi-0.1beta4/kexi/kexidb'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Fehler 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/olaf/Documents/downloads/kexi/kexi-0.1beta4/kexi/kexidb'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Fehler 1

make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Fehler 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/olaf/Documents/downloads/kexi/kexi-0.1beta4'

ok i have it :-)
sometimes thinking helps the bug was between the ears.

for mandrakers:
./configure --prefix=/usr

then as root:
ln-s /usr/lib/libGL.la /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.la

then make (as user)
then make install (as root)

thanks for this great database gui - go on so.
