Description:

A login interface management utility for the new GDM. Allows for wallpaper setting, autologin option, prompted or userlist login, etc.

The setup utility that comes in Ubuntu Karmic (and many other Gnome based distros) is missing most of the older GDM setup utility\'s functionality. This application puts the functionality back in the hands of the users through a familiar and simple GUI.

The most recent version will always be on launchpad (https://launchpad.net/gdm2setup) as well as the tgz version for other distros.

Certainly! :) The most recent version and a source TGZ as well, will always be available from Launchpad. I have added the link and the download both to the node above.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Interesting, I had the same situation.
I run app, but didn't change there anything. And after reboot my login screen was changed (I use Mint 8 Gnome), there was no bottom panel. And system didn't accept my password.
So I just enter 'root' as user and it's pass. And reenable standard login settings in Administrate menu.

When you refer to there being no bottom pannel, do you mean the shutdown options and etc bar?

Which version of GDM2Setup have you installed and did you install it via the TGZ, DEB or PPA methods?

If you can, please go the the 'About' button in the app and respond here with the version listed on the page there.

Since you are on a Debian based system, you can simply remove the application using 'apt-get' or 'aptitude' commands. If this does not return your system to working order, please perform a dump of your gconf settings for the 'gdm' user and post them to a bug in the Launchpad project so that we can assess and resolve this issue immediately. In fact, even if removing it DOES resolve the issue, please post a bug to the project directly. The url is https://launchpad.net/gdm2setup - then click on the Bugs tab.

I would encourage using the PPA over manual installation of the DEB file, however, as updates will not occur automatically and you may actually have a version that is out of date.

I using GDM2Setup 0.5.3. It's still installed, but truly it's almost useless in Mint (only for XSplash). Sad that your app can't adjust GDM themes, hope you will work on it.
I post my first reply for guys like ubuntico, think it will help in such problems.

I think I may have found why the image is not changing for Mint.. but the lockup part is still eluding me.

At what point does this occur? Immediately after installing? Or after making a specific use of the tool?

After lunching of the tool. Seriously, I run it once for quick view of options there, than closed it. And after reboot had problems. Just open it and close. May be it's because I use localized (Ukrainian) version of Mint? Probably with English localization it works well.
If you have some ideas how can I help you with this issue I will test app in some way, just say how.

 You should to help

If you upload a Scritp that modify the login screen, the minimal you can do at least, is to bring help if your Script crash a system for a user.

I recommend all of users of Gnome-Look dont install this Script, the author is not responsible if your system crash (like mine) and not give help.

I am not sure what you are trying to say here. If you are having difficulties - please DO ask for help.

The app DOES have an un-install (as any deb file does) built into the process of creating it. No bugs have been filed with the project that I am aware of which address this issue or anything like it.

Rather than cast negative light on some ones efforts - why not do the responsible, and community thing -report any bugs that you find and assist the developers in creating a better solution. You can do so on the Launchpad Community site that is listed here with the app.

I wrote to you about the problem and you have ignored my message.
I had to reinstall completely my system.

Thanks for nothing.

As I said - please give more information, or better yet report the bug, if it is one, to the project so that others can benefit from your wisdom.

Do not forget that many (if not all) of the free software tools like this are developed by people that are not paid to do so, and they work regular jobs as well. This means that taking a few days to respond can some times happen. In cases where the bug is a critical one - reporting it to the project, as such, would have flagged several people immediately and a response would have been faster.

It works like a charm! (I am using Mint 8/Karmic). The first version of this I tried didn't, so I'm happy it's fixed now. I can only see good things coming of this. Thanks again!

 GDM2Setup

hi together,

I already use the latest version of GDM2Setup in Lucid (theppa-Repository on Launchpad).

So now i want to know, when it will be possible to install all these nice GDm-themes here on http://gnome-look.org via this nice little app.

Because it seems, that the Themesupport is not integrated into this app until up to now. Ok, it is possible to change Wallpaper, Icons and Metacity for the Login-Screen. But how to install all these nice GDM-themes via this nice app??

Please make themesupport possible. this would be really pleasing.

Exosyst (the other developer of GDM2Setup) was working on that, last I checked. The problem is that the old themes are not compatible with the new GDM that the Gnome folk have released - and they do not seem to be creating a solution as of yet. So, this would seem to fall into our laps for a solution. Watch the releases and the news here and on the Launchpad project page - we will post as soon as we have selected a direction to go with this.

hi Dear,

I thought so from the beginning of this. That's why i would like to see a solution in your so nice app that works so charming for me in Lucid.
And shall I tel you what? Your app is a "must have" right after Ubuntu-tweak.

I love your app and would like to see a soluton for the newly released GDM-themes here on http.7/gnome-look.org.

So I would be really happy if you would go working on this.

Have a go and don't give up and don't give in. Your app is so helpful also to friends of mine.

Greetings
Karmicbastler
