Bind applications to the virtual desks

Description:

There are an excellent main menu with categories in Gnome.
All applications are sorted by category, like \\\'internet\\\', \\\'office\\\', \\\'graphics\\\' and so on.
It is very convenient. It is very easy to find applications, especially if it is a newly installed application.
And I thought it would be nice to use the same categories to bind applications to virtual desktops.
For example:
- internet apps on the first desktop;
- office apps - 2nd desktop
- games - 3rd desktop
and so on...
Great feature?

All categories already in the menu.
Specifically, categories are in .desktop files.

Therefore, this tool (or plugin for windows manager) should be simple.
But there is a problem, the classes of windows (WM_CLASS) are not in the .desktop-files.
And, sometimes, it is very difficult to find a .desktop-file for the application.

There are several workarounds to do so, such as the search for the executable name, the comparison of window\\\'s class (WM_CLASS) and .desktop-file name, and so on.
But very often they do not work.

This problem has two simple solutions:
- add WM_CLASS key to .desktop-files
- .deaktop-file names must contain the WM_CLASS, like \\\"resclass-resname.desktop\\\"
This should be systemwide.

Interesting Idea, though I think that falls into more of a user preference than anything. Just a few points I'd like to know is how would I access my programs? would I have one main menu, or a different menu on each desktop? Would all of the categorized desktop be active all the time, or just when the programs are? What if I'm using say GIMP and Inkscape together, would they have to be on the same desktop? just some thoughts

Gimp and inkscape on one desktop, because both in same category in main menu.

I see it this way:
User can assign categories (from main menu) to virtual desktops.
E.g. 1-internet, 2-office, 3-games, 4-other or 1-internet and games, 2-other.

Virtual desktops are usual virtual desktops like in compiz.

I think it may be a plugin for compiz.
You can choose categories for desktops and other options like 'activate desk when new window opens'.
