 builds, but doesn't work

built on fedora f12-x86_64 (kde4.3.2).

Doesn't seem to work. Tried a local dir vs sftp remote dir. Pops up lots of dialogs with 'invalid url' and just chews up cpu.

Did you test it using both local dirs (or similar)?

Are you able to browse your sftp folder using dolphin?

with 2 local directories, OK

komparator4 jupiter sftp://localhost/home/nbecker/jupiter2

1) Pops up (infinte number?) of info boxes saying "Invalid URL ."

2) Is taking an exceedingly long time with 100% cpu while 'appending missing/newer files to list'

I'm sure I used older komparator versions just like this, and did not have these problems.

After waiting a LONG time, it looks like except for item #1, it did work.

when compairing local dir to sftp, now seems to work much better. No more error messages, and much faster.

Still does not exit when main window is closed.

Are you using a system tray icon?
When komparator4 window is closed, and system tray icon is enabled, it won't close but minimize to system tray icon (and therefore won't exit).

If that's the problem, right click on system tray icon -> close or disable system tray icon.

Running from bash, does not return to shell prompt when main window is closed. I didn't realize it was supposed to stay in the system tray - so maybe this is not an issue.

This is most likely a bug in your system (kdelibs updated but not phonon afterwards).
Please reinstall/recompile phonon and kdelibs.

 performance issues

 by google01103 on: Jun 6 2010

Score 50%

Did a timing/performance comparison of this and the earlier version (komparator) and this version is problematic.

comparing my music directory with it's backup (13,000 files, 1,000 folders)

K4 starts missing/appending at 30 seconds, after 120s it's at 4%, after 240s it's at 6% - then I kill it

K starts missing/appending @ 15 seconds, at 30s it's at 50% and finished at @ 60s

thanks,

Did you disable search for empty folders?
Do you expect many missing or newer files? Probably adding these files to the list is causing this issue?

The example test was given to the exact sets of directories - no adjustment were made based on the search results.

There were no differences in the directories so there were no missing folders or files found but since one directory was the backup the timestamps of 1188 of the files were newer.

Originally k4 had "find empty directories" checked but I reran the test with it unchecked with the same result.

The problem is definitely in the "finding miss/newer" segment of the processing.

If it matters both version of the app had "case sensitive" checked"

Thanks for the response

Have you considered submitting the app for inclusion in KDE or KDE extras?

Can you test version 0.2?

I don't think it's worth adding it, with just a handful of people using it.

I think this fixed it, performance seems pretty much equal - thanks

small bug - in the duplicates tab I can't drag to adjust the size of the fields

too bad there's light usage it's a great app, better then the alternatives
