Description:

Plastikfox is a theme for Mozilla Firefox to make it have the same look as the KDE programs with the Plastik style and the Crystal SVG 1.0 icon set.

ABOUT THE OK AND CANCEL BUTTONS: Firefox 1.5 doesn't have OK and Cancel buttons anymore in the Options dialog but it's possible to enable them again. Just write "about:config" in the address bar, search for the key "browser.preferences.instantApply" and set it to false. The OK and Cancel buttons should be there back again.

BUTTON ORDER: You can reverse the button order in the dialog boxes so they are like in the other KDE applications. Simply click "Reverse button order" to install a patch to activate this feature.

COLOR SCHEME: Plastikfox doesn't follow the KDE color scheme. Remember it's just a theme for Firefox, so it's impossible to do it. It's made with the 'Plastik' color scheme. If you want to change the color scheme you'll have to modify the theme manually. :(

Thanks to Everaldo for his Crystal SVG icon sets. You can get them at:
http://www.everaldo.com

-------------------------------------
HOW TO INSTALL
-------------------------------------

If you have an older version of the theme, uninstall it before installing a new one.

· Extract the files anywhere you want
· Open the install.html file in Firefox (you don't need to be 'root')
· Click the "Install" button
· Accept when it prompts for the theme installation
· 'Tools' menu - Themes
· Select 'Plastikfox Crystal SVG' and click 'Use this theme'
· Restart Firefox (VERY IMPORTANT!)
· Enjoy!

If you want, you may delete the downloaded files once the theme is installed.

POLL
-------------------------------------

Your opinion counts! I would like to know if you prefer keeping the current icon set or changing the icons to the ones included in KDE 3.5. Please vote here:

if you have two(+) tabs opened, and the left is "selected", then if you open a new tab it will look like the svreenshot. Hm... understand?

Well, keep up with good work! =)

May the open source be with you.

 Re: tabs again...

It's caused by the way Mozilla/Firefox handles the tab properties. The tabs' look rely on those properties. When you open a new tab, Firefox doesn't update the properties of the previous one and that's why this effect appears. When you select one of the near tabs, Firefox updates its properties and so it's displayed correctly. I don't know very well how to fix that. :( There should be some way to force Firefox to update their properties, but I don't know how.

I have my university exams in 3 weeks so I have to study and I can't work on it. I could take one or two hours to be done, but it's not hard. It requires a few steps:

· Take the .jar file and unzip it in a new directory.

· Open Konqueror and browse to "global/icons" inside that directory. Open another Konqueror window/tab/split the window and go to "/usr/share/icons/nuvola" or the place where your icons are installed.

· You'll find the directories and the file names match, so you just have to take each icon in the Nuvola icon set and overwrite the corresponding one in the Plastikzilla theme.

· Additionally, you could search for other icons in the other directories and replace them, but it's not necessary. There are some icons with the Crystal look that don't have the same name. You may replace them changing the name, edit the corresponding icon or whatever you want.

· You have to create the "disabled" icons. This is the hardest step. It's easy but requires a lot of time and is repetitive because you have to do the same thing with each icons. For that, search for the icons inside the "disabled" directory. You have to take each original icon in the Nuvola icon set and open it with GIMP. Add a layer mask and fill it with #707070 (112, 112, 112) so the icon looks translucent. Apply the mask and convert the image to grayscale. Then save it with the same name under the "disabled" directory overwriting the old Crystal one. It would be better to create a script for doing that because it's repetitive, but I don't know how. Maybe using ImageMagick to make the same effect, but I don't know.

· Edit the file "global/contents.rdf". Change the name "Plastikzilla Crystal SVG" to "Plastikzilla Nuvola" or whatever you want.

· Now zip it all in a new .jar file with the new name and install it. For that you can use the form at this page:

http://www.texturizer.net/firefox/themes/

It would be better if you do it all with plastikzilla-crystalsvg-1.3-1.4.jar because I have a PHP script to automatically generate the plastikzilla-crystalsvg-1.5-1.6.jar file and so we could publish the new theme here in KDE-Look.org. I can send it to you by e-mail.

Woops! I was thinking about Plastikzilla instead of Plastikfox. It's all the same but obviosly there's only one .jar file so you just have to work on it. There are a few other images with the same name, but it's better that you give me your e-mail address so I can send you the "devel" version of the theme, which contains a few bug fixes and improvements.

 Test it in Firebird

Could someone test the theme under Firebird 0.7 and tell me if it works? I've added support for it in the installer, but I don't have it so I can't test it.

 Crashes when install

Really nice theme, just one thing. When I try to install it on Firefix 0.8 it just crashes. The only error message I get is "segmentation fault". Have tried both with Debians firefox and "the original".

Try to create a new profile. If you don't know how, just rename ~/.phoenix to ~/.phoenix-old or something, and then try again. You can also try to disable the "reverse button order" patch and install the theme without it. Then install the patch manually by copying the file patch/userChrome.css to ~/.phoenix/default/xxxxxxxx.slt/chrome. Please tell me if it works for you.

 Tabbrowser extension

Very nice theme but, the tabs don't look right with the Tabbrowser Extensions.

It's probably a preblem with the extension, but it wouldn't hurt if you could take a look, I guess.

Even tough I really like that extension, I disabled it to use the theme....

I know about the problem with the Tabbrowser extensions and I've been looking for a way to solve it but I don't know very well how. The tabbrowser extensions bind the tab widget so what I say in the theme gets overriden. I think the only way to fix it is by making a modified version of the Tabbrowser extensions that overrides the tab widget in a way that it's still compatible with what I say in the theme. But right now I don't have the time to work on it, so unfortunately Plastikfox won't be compatible with the Tabbrowser extensions before I finish my university exams, which begin in 3 weeks and will end 30th june.
