Description:

Bangarang is a media player for KDE. The name comes from the Jamaican word for noisy, chaos or disorder.

Feedback and patches are definitely welcome. Packaging contributions are also welcome. I only ask one thing: please be respectful. I do this in my spare time and, as such, I'd like to keep my motivation up.

The source code is maintained on http://gitorious.org/bangarang and anyone interested in helping is certainly welcome.

Please report bugs to http://code.google.com/p/bangarangissuetracking/issues/list

Thanks much for your help!

Thankfully, the tray icon feature is already in master. Should see it in the 2.0 release.

I really love Bangarang, but there is still a lot to do and to improve. But for now, it replaced Kaffeine. :)

First of all, Bangarang crashes on playing m4v- files, but kaffeine does too. Maybe its not the fault of bangarang.

The organisation of TV- Shows is really great, but from time to time there are shows without a season. If the season of every single epsiode is "-" there should not be any season- screen.

An extra category for Music videos would be great. Videos, but handled like Audio. So you can insert an artist and they will be sorted by artist. :)

I'll try to provide packages for Fedora! :)

Thanks so much for the encouragement and feedback and also for your offer to package for fedora.

Thanks for the suggestions for dealing with seasonless TV Shows. It would certainly save unnecessary clicks.

I'm still working through the user workflows for Music Videos. I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind.

I'll look at both of your suggestion for the 2.0 release I'm currently working on.

Why not use: yum install bangarang

I'm the bangarang maintainer in Fedora.

Strange, last time i tried there was no bangarang. But nice to know, thanks. :)

But it seems to be still v1.0, or?

Yeah, i was swamped lately with work. But i'm currently updating to 1.0.1.

Builds for rawhide, F-13 are done, F-12 running currently. Will be in updates-testing with the next push. Most likely Monday :)

.. and I would really like it to replace dragon player as the default player for KDE. It is so nice you try to integrate into it the base KDE technologies... What about other integration stuff, like the KDE menus, configurable shortcuts and other stuff?

Thanks for the encouragement. :-)
A shortcuts editor is already in master for the upcoming 2.0 version, not to mention a few other features. The 2.0 feature list is on the developement wiki page at gutorious.

Thanks again!

Good, shortcuts! I was just about to write about that. Tighter integration aside from nepomuk and shortcuts would be very welcome.

 Genres filter shows "No result

I've reported a bug for this already, but I'm wondering if anybody else is experiencing the bug where "No results" is shown when filtering by Genres, even when there are genres entered into the metadata of the audio files in the library.

 Nepomuk file indexer

Hey! I like the usability of that player and maybe it replace for me current amarok 2 versions witch I dont like in look & feel. I tought that the player maybe should be able to use the nepomuk strigi file indexer directly to become information about music collection. Maybe you can include an option to use it directly as source if that is possible.
Thanks for your great app and the time you spend to it.

Thanks much for the encouragement! :-)

Bangarang uses whatever media data is stored in nepomuk. If you set up strigi to index your data in System Settings, Bangarang will use whatever it put in nepomuk. An option in Bangarang to launch strigi is a possibility though. :-)

There are occasions when the user doesn't have strigi enabled, or prefers not to have strigi index their media files (or because some versions of strigi doesn't index all the metadata used by Bangarang) where they will use Bangarang do the indexing. But, except for data that cannot be extracted by strigi, it isn't required to use Bangarang to do it.

Hope this helps and thanks,
Andrew
