Description:

Bangarang is a media player for KDE. The name comes from the Jamaican word for noisy, chaos or disorder.

Feedback and patches are definitely welcome. Packaging contributions are also welcome. I only ask one thing: please be respectful. I do this in my spare time and, as such, I'd like to keep my motivation up.

The source code is maintained on http://gitorious.org/bangarang and anyone interested in helping is certainly welcome.

Please report bugs to http://code.google.com/p/bangarangissuetracking/issues/list

Thanks much for your help!

1.0 alpha A1
Compiling and working fine with the Kubuntu Karmic (beta) / KDE 4.3.2.

What a fine media player - Thank You!

As this is a alpha -> It only finds and plays mpeg (video) files ??

Throwing the sources to the PPA.

Thanks so much for trying it out!

Could you say what other kinds of video files you're trying to open that it's not seeing? I basically took a stab at a list of mimetypes for it to recognize, so I'd like to check if your video type aren't in this list or if it's come other bug.

If i use the The Bangarang "Open folder containing video files(s)". The Bangarang will list and play:

.mpg, .mp4, .mov

It don't list:

.avi, .wmv, .flv

It is playing (Dolphin - Open with Bangarang):

.avi(xvid/divx), .wmv

It can play (commandline - bangarang URL)
.flv(video:VP6)

It can play video DVD's

Only ones that it can't play are some avi (xvid/divx) clips but it seems (?) to be the Taglib problem: "TagLib: MPEG::Header::parse() -- Invalid sample rate.". They are playing with the MPlayer/VLC/Xine..

ok so I added a few extra mimetypes to the file list engine.

You can get the fresh sources from http://gitorious.org/bangarang. If you don't have git you can download a tarball of the source by clicking on the "Source Tree" link. the "Download as tar.gz" link is on the left.

Needed to come vote this application. Just so awesome on alpha state.

btw, wouldn't the propitiate site be the kde-apps.org than the opendesktop.org? (just the subclass, because player is designed for KDE4 pillars in mind?).

It's all shared. The app was actually posted on kde-apps but opendesktop agreggates them all so yay!

 openSUSE11.1

 by moon115 on: Oct 8 2009

Apparently opensuse does not have a kdemultimedia4-devel package (at least not currently) Has anyone been able to work around this w/out doing a big KDE4 build? I assume that opensuse is providing these files as parts of other packages (kdelibs-devel, etc).

I think I have all of these KDE4 devel packages installed but don't know how to tell cmake where they are.

I really like the looks of this project and think nepomuk integration is an excellent idea.

Good luck w/ it

You need libkcddb4-devel and libkcompactdisc4-devel to compile it. :)

In a few hours, the Build Service will contain my package in KDE:KDE4:Playground

I look forward to seeing it in playground, I'll try w/ the 2 dev packages you mentioned.

Hope your next post doesn't mean bigger problems.

thanks

I installed the -dev packages and was able to compile Bangarang. It starts nicely and looks beautiful but always segfaults for me when loading a file or folder.

During the make process I received numerous errors

Error in thread 140205235107680 : "Invalid iterator.

and especially
Error in thread 140205235107680 : "Unsupported operation (2).

If you can tell me how to turn on debug w/ cmake then I will gladly send you a backtrace if you wish.

Thanks, looks really promising

Would you mind trying fresh sources from below and tell me if you still encouter the problem? oooh, I hate segfaults. They're a b***h for me to track down.

 No return in nonvoid function

 by buschmann23 on: Oct 9 2009

When I try to compile this for openSUSE in the Build Service, the rpm build checks complain about a "No return in nonvoid function" at the following lines:

Quote:

/usr/src/packages/BUILD/bangarang/mediaitemdelegate.cpp:322
/usr/src/packages/BUILD/bangarang/platform/listenginefactory.cpp:133

 Sorry for double post above

I just built from git tree again, still same error.

Is there a flag that I can use w/ cmake to enable debug? Probably a too simple question, but I'd like to be able to give useful bug reports if possible.

not sure... Not using a special flag here. hmmm... I'll try to find out and get back to you. If anyone else has any ideas, chime in. :-)
