Hi there,

so here's the sequel of my 1st attempt to achieve a lookalike to the (so hated) Win.7 appearance.

My 1st try was posted in the early days of June :

I tried then to give the panel the transparency there is in the sosoft OS :)
I guess I find a way to do the trick.

So :

- 1 ) firstly, install the gtk theme I have managed to asemble, a few changes have I done :
they'll be more obvious at the end of the "to do" affair, cause without transparency it just looks blahhh.

- 2 ) when you're done with the gtk theme install,
use the panel.bg.png I provided inside the gtk files as a picture for the panel :
Just right click on the panel, then properties, backgroud, background picture,
and select the picture I provided in the main folder of my theme.
The path should probably be : ~/.themes/Win7.Basic.02/gtk-2.0/panel.bg.png.

If I didn't screw the whole thing, you'll be able to see a true transparent panel bar with soft cloudy mouseover effect and a shady dark button for the foreground open window.


I invite you to read my previous post to get the information about the who's who about this work.

Again, I simply put together things I found here and there but 4 sure didn't do the whole thing on my own, I simply don't have the skills.

Not to be used for commercial purpose if it's more comprehensive this way.
Anyway, use it the way you want to, just as long you don't forget pieces are probably the result of other people's work :)

Hello, nice work!

I have detected 2 problems with this theme, with Firefox (Shiretoko) and OpenOffice 3. In both cases I had problems with menu bar. The background color is dark-blue, and, with black font color (at Nautilus and other programs the text color is white) it's hard to see the buttons text.

Sorry for my English!

These bugs are not related to the theme itself but are known bugs from the 2 apps you're having trouble with.
Regarding Ooo, there are workarounds to correct this issue. Just google a bit and you'll find a how to ;-)
Regarding Firefox, why don't try another theme, that's precisely what I did.
There are plenty o'them on their site.
Go on & change for a new one.

An avarage workaround can be reached with the use of "Gnome.Color.Chooser".
This app will let you change the color of the text in your menu bar.
That's, so far, the easier way to do the trick, according to the fact none of us is a program writer and analyst ;-)

Thanks! I thought that was a bug from your theme but seams that the problem is only related to the program. Ok, it's nice to know!

About the change of Firefox theme, it's the solution that I already made. But the theme is so cool!

P.S.: I tried to fix that, but no success! I modified a little bit the menubar-blue.rc I can put the menu to appear well with contrast background/text, but it wasn't so pretty...

This is just an awesome theme! But despite this, I have a couple of problems here:

Is " even a theme engine? If not, could you (or anyone for that matter) tell me what theme engines I need for this theme?

2. With your tray icons, how would I install them?

It appears from time to time the gnome appearance manager displays such a message.
But you may have noticed it doensn't have any impact on the theme itself.
As long as the theme is well displayed, who cares.
Furthermore, and to be honest, I have no clue what this message is about. I've been used to see it from time to time while trying other gtk2x themes, but solely when it comes to clearlooks engines or so, it does not impact the look of this very theme. So... :)

What happened to the file icons? Can't seem to find any download link. Translated the site in Google Language and it said that the file was deleted by the user. Any idea where I might be able to find it?

vi ~/.mozilla/firefox/*/chrome/userChrome.css

insert code (Ins)
menubar, menubutton, menu{
font-family: helvetica !important;
font-size: 4mm !important;
color: white ! important;
}

and save (:wq)

Thanx a lot for the trick.
Anyway, I choose to use another theme than the default one and this bug is not a concern to me anymore.
There are plenty of good themes giving FF the look of IE8 - I chose to use the "Vista-aero" but "MyFirefox" is rather cool too.

So. Many thanx for your welcome workaround.
It'll be very helpful for those who wish to stand to the default theme or all buggy ones when it comes to display.
