Description:

A configurable script that fetch lyrics from various sites.

  • Features:
    - Multiple site search (reload button can change site source)
    - Google search suggestions
    - Sites arranged by priority
    - Adequate charset support
    - Automatic (omitting track numbers, bracket, parenthesis, feat) and manual adjustment for artist and song name
    - Localizable GUI settings (cache, display mode, sites...)
    - Display modes: rich text, plain text
    - File cache (with expire period)

  • Supported web servers:
    wikia.com, lyricsplugin.com, lyricstime.com, lyricsreg.com, metrolyrics.com, seeklyrics.com, azlyrics.com, jamendo.com, darklyrics.com, mp3lyrics.org, songlyrics.com, elyrics.net, lyricsdownload.com, lyrics.com, lyriki.com, lyricsmode.com, lyricsbay.com, loudson.gs, lyricsfreak.com, sing365.com, allreggaelyrics.com, stixoi.info, teksty.org, tekstowo.pl, vagalume.uol.com.br, google.com

  • Translated into:
    - Czech
    - English
    - French (needs updating)
    - German
    - Italian
    - Lithuanian (needs updating)
    - Portuguese
    - Russian
    - Serbian
    - Spanish
If you want to help translating the script in your language or update an existent translation follow the instructions from README inside script directory.
Note that comment from script.spec is also translatable.

  • Notice:
    - It's suggested to turn off other lyric scripts like default LyricWiki.
    - Some ideas (codes) are taken from Glyrics, LyricWiki, Lyrix and Wiki-Lyrics.
    - Serially web sites change themselves, which can cause the script stops working for the site. Script adaptations are required when a site changes its "template".
    - Script can automatically (without google support) search only sites which URL can be constructed solely by artist and title.
    - The script is usually installed in ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/ultimate_lyrics/ or in ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/scripts/ultimate_lyrics/
    - It's possible to disable loading of Ultimate Lyrics in ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc or by removing Ultimate Lyrics installation folder
    - Defaults settings can be changed in main.js when GUI settings doesn't work.
    - The script is not automatically updatable. Occasionally you have to update the script manually from Tools->Script Manager->Get More Scripts->Update

  • To do:
    nothing planned

  • Known issues:
    - The script uses system language settings (chosen by GDM) instead of kde regional settings (can be altered in main.js).
    - The script should work properly with Qt framework 4.5.x or 4.6.x, but may have problems (like missing GUI settings) with an older version.

    Hi Vladimir,

I was made aware that you ask people to report bugs to http://bugs.kde.org in the "About" dialog without having your product registered there.

Please register your product on http://bugs.kde.org and maintain it or handle bug reports here, but we cannot accept bug reports of 3rd-party scripts to be filed against Amarok, since we do not maintain those.
    Thank you for your comprehension.

     problem with stixoi.info

    Hello,
I use the last version of ultimate lyrics:
    Ultimate Lyrics
    Version 1.85
    Using KDE 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4)

The problem with that version is I can not select (it is now allowed) stixoi.info site (in the configuration menu) and thus I can not download the lyrics of Greek songs.
Is something that I can do about that?

Thank you for this grat script.

Unfortunately not. stixoi.info doesn't support searching by URL, so the site can't be searched automatically by Ultimate Lyrics (this is reason why you can't enable searching for the site). However, if google finds valid URL, you can click on one of the suggestions.

    Well thanks a lot!

Now it's working perfectly. Sometimes it won't find valid urls because the site was down for many days and perhaps google hasn't indexed the whole site yet. Most of my greek tracks are found however so yay!!

The latest update fixes the Amarok crash for me! There's also a strange visual update lag/freeze issue with the Scripts window whenever its opened. I'm running KDE 4.4 RC3 (4.3.98).

I has just added zeneszoveg.hu. The site can't be searched by URL so you can use it only in combination with google search. However, to add new site it's necessarily to do 3 things:

    1. create descriptor for site in sites.js (extract rule, URL pattern, encoding, title pattern ...) Alternatively to extract rule, you can define reply function to extract lyrics from a HTTP reply. Maybe other descriptors in sites.js can give you idea what you have to do. There is also short help at start of the file.

    2. register the site in main.js

    3. configure url filter for google search from configuration dialog or in main.js

    Good luck!

     Special characters in tags

by redm on: Feb 23 2010

    Score 50%

I discovered two problems with special characters in tags, that is "/" and "()" (Not sure about other tags, but it's a problem in track title at least).

    The examples are:

    Artist: Apoptygma Berzerk
    Album: Rocket Science
Title: "Apollo (Live On Your TV)"

    UL tries to fetch:

amarok: SCRIPT "Ultimate Lyrics" : "lyrics.wikia.com|http://lyrics.wikia.com/Apoptygma_Berzerk:Apollo"

While the correct URL would be:

    http://lyrics.wikia.com/Apoptygma_Berzerk:Apollo_(Live_On_Your_TV)

The other example is title "Pitch Black / Heat Death". UL tries to fetch:

amarok: SCRIPT "Ultimate Lyrics" : "lyrics.wikia.com|http://lyrics.wikia.com/Apoptygma_Berzerk:Pitch_Black_Heat_Death"

While the correct URL would be:

    http://lyrics.wikia.com/Apoptygma_Berzerk:Pitch_Black/Heat_Death

I'm using UL 1.85 and Amarok "Version 2.2-GIT", (Build Date: Nov 28 2009).

Another problem with "?". Example, same artist and album as above, title "Asleep Or Awake?".

    UL tries to fetch:

amarok: SCRIPT "Ultimate Lyrics" : "lyrics.wikia.com|http://lyrics.wikia.com/Apoptygma_Berzerk:Asleep_Or_Awake?"

However the proper URL would be:

    http://lyrics.wikia.com/Apoptygma_Berzerk:Asleep_Or_Awake%3F

So the "?" needs to be encoded (strangly the "/" above doesn't need to).

Characters / and ? are omissions, and I will fix this. () is feature since text inside () is usually just random description and is balk for searching. But Ok, I will add a checkbox for () in tag adjustments.

Regarding (): Hmm, I just had a look at my collection.. I don't think a global option is a solution here. Indeed in many cases the text inside () is just an addition and not needed to lookup the lyrics. OTHO I found quite a few cases where the lyrics.wikia.com URL needs the (). Actually I even have albums, where for some songs the () needs to be added to the URL but not for others...

The best would be a smarter way to search on wikia.lyrics.com and then narrow down the actual URL. But I guess this is not possible?

But how about first trying an URL with (), if that fails try again without ()? If that also fails, give up.
