Icecast.org Directory Service

   1.3 / 1.3b

Amarok 2.0 Script

Score 77%
Icecast.org Directory Service

Downloads:  987
Submitted:  Jul 12 2009
Updated:  Jun 25 2011

Description:

The skript allows you to browse the Icecast.org directory at xiph.org

It downloads the directory during skript initialization and sorts the streams by type (OGG, AAC+ and AAC). Please be patient as the skript has to load and parse a 2MB file.

Have fun and listen to something other than mp3 ;-)

P.S.: by special request I created a version without the "fetching stations" pop-up. This is version 1.3b from the second download link.

Changelog:

2011-06-25: works again with Amarok 2.4
Alternative version "b" is without the status message pop-up.

2010-07-28: alternative version 1.2b does not show "fetching stations" pop-up. No other changes.

2010-01-24:
bugfix release for amarok 2.2.2
new feature: search stream by its name
known issues:
* when amarok builds the station list for the first time, it omits a lot of stations. Workaround: search for any station. After the search bar is cleared again, the list will be complete.
* there is at the moment no way to reload the station list without restarting amarok

2009-10-23:
bughunting release, removing the large "others" section improves stability. Sections now only are accessible after they have been loaded so the empty sections shouldn't occur any more. Xiph fish logo for ogg vorbis streams added ;)

2009-07-12:
initial version

Btw, a search field would be extremely useful. There are so many stream, it's difficult to find something even if you know what you're looking for.

All Scripts I have seen so far do searching by sending the server a search request. Since you cannot query the Icecast server at the moment, I have no idea how to filter my results now. Hints welcome, as well as forks of the script.

thank you for this lifesaver - especially now that shoutcast has been removed from amarok!

I would like to second the request for a search field but have no answer on filtering :(

There's an annoying pop-up error message *every* time Amarok is started, saying that fetching stations might take some time.

This is quite unacceptable. Can this be disabled?

Hi,

this message box is displayed on purpose. The reason is that the skript has to download approximately 1.3MB of data before it can display the stations. On ISDN for example, this would indeed need some time.

This feature is found in other scripts, too.

You could, however, comment out the respective code in the source without changing the function of the icecast directory service script.

Best regards,
cyrusdreams

I uninstalled the script because of this pop-up; It told me once about the time delay, it doesn't need to tell me over and over and over again.

I also don't want to start editing files; that's not user friendly.

Alternative version 1.2b available. This is without the pop-up.

Hello,

unfortunately the icecast script does no longer work in amarok 2.4 (debian squeeze backports).

Just for your interest
Thanks for reading

Agreed it is a shame that this hasn't been updated to work with newer versions of Amarok. Is this project dead?

Amarok 2.4.1 on Arch Linux.

The bugfixed version will be released today, so stay tuned.

The new version does not sort by stream-type any more (i.e. Ogg/AAC/AAC+/MP3 Streams are shown in one list) but at last works with Amarok 2.4

Any hints on how to reactivate this functionality, without the bug that no streams are shown at all, are welcome.

Best regards,
CyrusDreams

 unspecified name

90% of the streams show up as "unspecified name", rendering it quite useless. Is there a fix for this?
