Ubuntu should look more professional... I've made a test by changing themes and showing the desktop to 10 multiple persons... This is the desktop that they would love to use...

Part of the greatness of Ubuntu is that it is not Windows. I don't see why the idea of standard desktops is so embeded in everyone's mind. Why can't the emphasis as-well as its marketing be on its customisability? More professional... I guess, what about Beryl? That is just awesome. The focus I think should be on the fact that people have different needs and wants. Step out of the norm and think outside the box, we will all prosper from this.

1. Many users are using the default theme of the OS they have installed on their box.

2. The first impression on an desktop theme is very important, especially if it is promoted to new users.

A lot of revolutionary oss projects failed because of the first impression.

I think a very pleasing theme is best the simpler the better.
Also the means too customized it is key, it has to be easy, very easy in fact.

I would avoid branding and focus on the creativity of users, they will remember who got them there and tell others.

MS branding and confined - limited options, should be avoided. My Pov.
