Description:

KDE Kontact is a PIM (Personal Information Management) suite. It provides an email client, calendaring, meeting scheduling, a task list, contact management and syncing functionality by integrating existing KDE PIM applications (called components in the context) using the powerful KParts technology. Most components are applications that have been shipped with KDE for a long time, and are thus very mature.

 Klotzsche

Dresden-Klotzsche? I thought the name was invented by Heinrich Mann's great narration "Gretchen"? However Klotzsche may sound like a KDE app.

 how to share Kontact

how do you share calendar & address book function in a small lan with 5 - 15 participants ?
If I put an appointment I would like to share this with my collegues and vice versa.
I'd like to know a simple app. security is no issue here.
Any recommendation?

Korganizer (which is part of contact) allows you to keep multiple calendars, so you can just put a calendar in a place where it is visible to everybody on your lan, and let them share it. Everyone can just use the 'Add...' button on bottom left of the calendar view (or add the calendar from the configuration dialog).

Just make sure the events you want to share are 'public'.

To let others add events to a shared calendar, simply make the calendar resource writable by them using the standard methods of your environment (file permissions).

Good idea, if you have Linux only clients, afaik. We still have some windows boxes too. So I tried eGroupware but we find it a bit sluggish.
If I put a date in Kalendar it appears twice for ex...

Hello,
let me jump onto this thread .... ;-)

I did this
(share a calendar with other users),
but always when a user edits the
calendar (using Kontact),
the permissions are set to rw------,
(following the ,umask 77' in my .bashrc)

Does somebody know how to fix ?

Thanks.

H.Steffen

 Suggestion Features

Great application!

I guess you would welcome some suggestions among these:

1-To have the possibility to group messages by subject/sender/etc in expandaple view (clicking on the + sign).
2-To have the possibillity to drag shortcuts to executables in the navigation bar.
3-To have the possibility to drag shortcuts to files in the navigation bar so people could acces their Documents faster.
4-To have the possibility to send an electronic FAX from Kontact.
5-A must: to have the possibility to customise that famous navigation bar!
(i.e.: to be able to remove some features and add others among a choice).
Keep up the excellent work!

 Konqueror tab.

I love kontact and it runs 24/7 on my machine. I love it. My life would be complete if I were able to use kontact as a tab in konqueror. Konqueror is my desktop these days.

This is a beautiful application. Thanks very much.

Maybe this is not he best place to mention ideas for usability?

anyway...

I'd love if I could link to an email from a note, or from a task, or from an event (in the calendar of course..)
Very often I get an email, but cannot act on it immediately, so i create a task, a note or a calendar event. I'd like to reserve the area in the note, task or calendar event for my thoughts or something to remind me of whatever, but then link to the email...
This would come in very handy when I want a task/note/event to link to an email with an attachment - it is quite often that I need to refer to something that is attached to an email...but just want to leave it attached to the email & not anywhere else in my file system.
