Description:

UPDATE New version is currently underway. I so far have better tablet detection, the new features of xsetwacom implemented, Intuos4 OLEDs working with both images, text and animations and application profiles that automatically switch the button configuration. Please hang in there everyone, I know the current version up here sucks and this overhaul is long overdue. Check back in a month or two.



THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH UBUNTU 11.04
I will fix the compatibility issues when I have the time to do so.

You can now easily configure a wacom tablet on linux!
This utility allows you to:
- Automatically detect and configure a wide range of wacom products
- Set custom key commands or mouse buttons to a tablet's shortcut buttons
- Set custom pressure curve on each of the tablet's input devices
- Automatically remembers and reapplies settings on startup
- At present, serial and bluetooth tablets are not yet supported. If it doesn't work for you, submit a comment on here so I can fix it.
- More features coming!

HOW TO INSTALL:
======================
Add the PPA to get the latest updates automatically!
Quote:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hughescih/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wacom-utility


HOW TO USE PRESSURE SUPPORT IN GIMP:
====================================
1. Open GIMP
2. In the Edit menu, click on preferences
3. Click on Input Devices
4. Click on Configure Extended Input Devices
5. For the devices; stylus, eraser and cursor, set the Mode to 'Screen'
6. Click Save, then Ok and you're done!

I agree. Before I discovered this package, I heard Ubuntu 10.10 had multi-touch support built in so I thought maybe my Bamboo Touch may finally work. Now I wish I didn't upgrade. I sure hope this is somewhat simple for you to port to 10.10. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know!

Right now I'm unable to upgrade to maverick because I use a macbook pro - and EFI is completely and utterly broken so I have to do a full reinstall every time I upgrade in the hope that they have fixed this major bug. I may be able to compile it for maverick if you tell me what dependencies are missing.
Can the deb package install? If not, what package is it missing?
Can the program run? If not, what happens if you run it from command line? python /usr/share/wacom-utility/wacom_utility.py

I don't know what I've done wrong, but this thing is practically completely useless with these flaws

1.
When I try to set a new command to one of the buttons on my intuos 3, it doesn't save it.

2. When I try to use the scroll bar, it just moves my cursor to the upper left corner of the screen, and does nothing.

3. There's no way to change the pressure sensitivity settings.(not THAT big of a deal, though)

Has anyone else had these problems? If so, what did you do to fix them? I really want to be able to use my tablet properly in Ubuntu, but as it stands now, the tablet is twice as useful in Windows as in Linux.

As this app is a frontend for xsetwacom, part of the wacom-tools package, there's nothing I can do to fix these bugs.
These are serious issues introduced into the wacom-tools package in ubuntu 10.04, there's nothing I can do to fix them. I've opened two bug reports, and the devs have done nothing. If you have the time and energy, then go chase the respective people and get their attention on it.

Is this really a bug or did they just change the mapping for some reason?

I labelled how wacom-tool perceive it on the tablet as compared to this program on the screen: http://atopia.se/cintiq.jpg

It all works well (except for the touchstrips) as long as one knows this.

Also, it forgets the settings on program exit. Maybe it or wacom-tool just need to run with some more su-like powers or something?

For now I think Ill just try and get the readout from the program it sends to xset in a file and get some auto thingie to send that to wacom-tool on startup.


@nausser: I got it (sort of, like stated above) working on Maverick by adding the Lucid lynx-repos, and then search for the python thing that was phased out, or whatever. And then installing Wacom control panel from a deb or the added reps.

Probably a bad idea though, but I prefered it to the alternative.

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like it. I'll add new features to this app once the wacom-tools developers fix a bug that seems to affect alot of users from viewing what hardware buttons they have set.
Screen mapping and application profiles are high on the list once this happens.

It doesn't work for me, I restart PC and the desktop never initialize. In order to recover my OS I have to delete the xorg.conf, I know is about the video but I don't know how to fix it, I have a intel x3100 and it works without the file xorg.conf.

I have a genius gpen tablet and I installed the wizard pendrivers from the ppa. My question is, can this wacom control panel work without creating a xorg.conf file??

I'm not an expert but I think that even if I could fix my video configuration in a xorg.conf file I think I will loose KMS functions and dual display. Am I right?

Anyhoo.. Thank you for the tool because I know it works for most people.

You must be using the older of the two versions available - as the newer version (8.10 and onward) does not have to modify your xorg.conf file to make tablets work.

However I hate to state the obvious but this utility is called Wacom control panel, not Genius GPen control panel. None of the backends or drivers are designed to work with your tablet's manufacturer.

I'm using the 1.20 versión on maverick meerkat (from ppa) and yes, every time I open the utility it creates a xorg.conf file with this content:

and those tiny lines doesn't allow a full desktop start.

this is the only thing the panel shows http://www.alm-mediaconcept.com/images/varias/Wacom%20Tablet%20Configuration.png then I restart and... black screen. I cannot even open a tty. Deleting the xorg.conf file is the only way to initialize my desktop.

Well I only dropped the gpen thing just as an exmaple because I own both tablets, a wacom bamboo touch and pen and a gpen.

Hi qb89dragon,
In the Windows Control panel, there is a left-handed mode. I am left-handed and I suggest that you add that feature to your app soon. I am not very good with codes and I can't set it myself, but I know that there is a pretty simple way to switch that with xsetwacom.
I think that it would help lots of leftys like me.

Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion. I would like a little more detail as to what you expect this left hand mode to do, and what model tablet you are using.
The only things I can find on the net are related to the scroll wheel on the wacom bamboo series tablet. You can copy and paste these into a terminal to apply the left-handedness features:
xsetwacom set "Wacom BambooFun 2FG 4x5 Finger" rotate HALF
xsetwacom set "Wacom BambooFun 2FG 4x5 Finger pad" rotate HALF
xsetwacom set "Wacom BambooFun 2FG 4x5 Pen" rotate HALF
xsetwacom set "Wacom BambooFun 2FG 4x5 Pen eraser" rotate HALF

(changing the model name to match your tablet from the output xsetwacom --list)

Thanks a lot, I saw that command line on a website, and there were some «~» before the «xsetwacom»... I had not understood that I was not supposed to type it in the terminal too...
