Description:

UPDATE New version is currently underway. I so far have better tablet detection, the new features of xsetwacom implemented, Intuos4 OLEDs working with both images, text and animations and application profiles that automatically switch the button configuration. Please hang in there everyone, I know the current version up here sucks and this overhaul is long overdue. Check back in a month or two.



THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH UBUNTU 11.04
I will fix the compatibility issues when I have the time to do so.

You can now easily configure a wacom tablet on linux!
This utility allows you to:
- Automatically detect and configure a wide range of wacom products
- Set custom key commands or mouse buttons to a tablet's shortcut buttons
- Set custom pressure curve on each of the tablet's input devices
- Automatically remembers and reapplies settings on startup
- At present, serial and bluetooth tablets are not yet supported. If it doesn't work for you, submit a comment on here so I can fix it.
- More features coming!

HOW TO INSTALL:
======================
Add the PPA to get the latest updates automatically!
Quote:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hughescih/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wacom-utility


HOW TO USE PRESSURE SUPPORT IN GIMP:
====================================
1. Open GIMP
2. In the Edit menu, click on preferences
3. Click on Input Devices
4. Click on Configure Extended Input Devices
5. For the devices; stylus, eraser and cursor, set the Mode to 'Screen'
6. Click Save, then Ok and you're done!

Thanks. Glad you like it. Please let me know of anything that isn't working right or that can be improved. Especially if the pad buttons are in the wrong order on your model of tablet.

Either you haven't enabled pressure / pad support in the options dialog, or you don't have wacom-tools (a dependency) installed.

If you don't get the extra options, you may have encountered an error.

Please tell me what distribution you are using, as well as that distribution's version.

Then go to a terminal, and run the following:

/usr/share/wacom-utility/wacom_utility.py

and copy and paste any text that appears in the terminal into this site.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 which I've installed a couple of days ago. It is fully updated. I have a Wacom 6x8 Intuos2 tablet.

None of that output indicated there was an error. Can you please send me the output of the command lsusb from a terminal. Also does the application show you a photo of your intuos 2 tablet in the top left? (indicating that it has been detected). Does the pen work as a regular mouse? Does the pressure support work at this point? Have you modified your xorg.conf file yourself beforehand?

It does show me a photo of my tablet. It looks as though my tablet is detected. I wish I could give you a screenshot, but it looks just like the screenshot from eleefece above, except of course it shows my tablet instead of the Wacom Bamboofun.

The pen seems to work normally. It does work as a mouse and the pressure support works as well.

I have not modified the xorg.conf file.

The only thing I see on the left under input devices is 'options', that's it. When I click on it, I see two options that I can checkmark: 'Apply settings on startup' and 'Enable Pressure Support / Pad Functionality'. Both of them are checked. Greyed out, I also see a line that says 'Currently configured devices are; stylus, eraser, cursor, pad'. The help button doesn't seem to work either as all I get is my browsers homepage.

Did you log out and log back in again after enabling pressure support?

Can you post your xorg.conf file in here?

I would also expect some breakages in future as one of the release goals for karmic I believe is to have working pressure support through HAL, instead of X11.

Yes, I install (and reboot).

I enabled the pressure support with wacom-utility but I don't know how to test.

and paste this at the end of the file and log out/log in again:

Also, I have two input devices under /dev/input called 'wacom' and 'tablet-intuos2-6x8'.

Unfortunately, it doesn't help me with my original problem of getting the mouse to work properly. The pen works just fine, but I would prefer to use the mouse and for some reason, the buttons don't work very well, though I can move the pointer around the screen. I was also hoping to be able to adjust the area of the pad that's relative to the screen to move the pointer. Right now I have to move the pen/mouse across the entire pad to move the pointer across the screen. Perhaps this is something you could implement in a future version of your software?

...never mind... I figured it out.

tweaks using wacomcpl seems to have done the trick. The mouse works just fine now. :)

I've a graphire 4 A6 and old versions seems to have problems to change my xorg.conf (I need to change manualy from terminal and reboot)

Now detects all and it works fine with GIMP.
