Description:

Blue Note is a plasma applet for studying notes. The applet is pretty similar, but not equal, to http://www.musictheory.net/trainers/html/id82_en.html ; the basic concept is that the application shows a note on stave(?), and one has to press the corresponding button. If it is right, a new note is picked.

At the moment the basic functionality works, but might naturally have bugs (and might eat your cat, too).

Ideas for features (some planned ones listed in the source file), bug reports and critique on my code (I do stupid things. I need someone to point them out) are more than welcome.

Changelog:

0.4.1
Customizable ranges for notes, to set for current clef, click "Set range" and click the wanted boundaries.
Basic keyboard support, pressing the key for the note equals to clicking the respective button.

0.4
Added tenor and alto clefs
Option to select which clefs to get notes from
Some basic animations
+ some tweaking

0.3 - Initial release, basic functionality on bass and treble clefs

 Extended Functionality

#Amusing notes.
Good plasmoid. You could very well add a parley-like system of memorizing musical symbols, notes, clefs, and terms using plasma.

Perhaps you could add a C clef too, like tenor or alto.

Fine ideas, I will look into them. Adding tenor and alto should be an easy task, actually.

Also, I believe H is the Northern European name for B. It is switchable in the configuration dialog, though. If it looks like I'm in minority, I might change the default to B :)

 custom range in key

Great plasmoid!

Could it be possible to add a setting that allow the user to set his own note range within a key?

Thanks :)

Sure, it will probably be one of the first things I will do when I start working on this next time

I know this is probably out of scope for a simple plasmoid but I'll try it anyway :

it would be great to have the notes being chosen from some sort of algorithm that takes into account how easy you find the note, instead of being randomly generated.
It would ask you more frequently the notes you're the slowest to answer and vice versa.

What do you think?

Good idea, I will look into it the next time I start working on this plasmoid (might take some time, though) *adds to TODO*

 blue note no run

After reinstalling Opensuse 11.4, blue note doesn't run anymore... Whereas it did before.

The widget screen says:

This object could not be created for the following reason:

Could not open the bluenote package required for the Blue Note widget.

Not sure how to proceed. It's a real bugger, as I use the widget all the time... :(

Please help!!

Strange. Works for me with oS11.4. Reinstalling doesn't help? Also, this is python-based widget, do you have the required packages installed? python-kdebase4 at least, I believe.

Hi Mazoon,

Thanks I've got it working again. I installed all sorts of qt-libs, plasmoids and themes to somehow managed to catch the missing part.

I really love this plasmoid, and use it serveral times a day.

Do you think it would be possible to make the screen wider, and present a whole score? Perhaps import a midi file and let the score run at a certain speed and input the notes as it goes :)?

It helps my sight reading a lot.

Ah, sorry, completely forgot to reply.
The ideas sound nice, but I'm afraid I'm not going to work on this plasmoid any time soon; I tend to code only when I get inspired, and that is unfortunately not very often and not for very long continuous periods.
