 FAR Manager

by andras on: Oct 18 2005

Score 50%

Is there any plan for tighter console integration like in FAR Manager for Windows? Right now I have to use FAR under Wine, but it's not the real solution. The point is, when I type a command I'd like to be able to hit Ctrl-O to turn off the panels and see the output, then scroll up with shift-PgUp etc. Like in MC, only MC is nearly unusable because of the broken terminal emulation (Esc Esc ]]D]]0, "The shell is already running a command" -- looks familiar?). Then I could compile and basically do everything from Krusader, and I'd never have to fire up Konsole again. The current, detached console in Krusader is not really good because the current directory doesn't follow the panels, I can't use Ctrl-Enter to copy the filename to the command line, and there's no hotkey to maximize it.

Thanks for the kind words. The same thing here, when i install a Linux distro the first thing i do is: installing Krusader :) I'm always wondered why many Linux distro's are *ignoring* OFM filemanagers, they have numerous advantages above one-panel filemanagers.

 Branch view

If it is possible, a "branch view", like XNC and Total Commander have, would be really useful.
Properly with a stop/abort button if one accidentally branches a big dir, which could lock up the app for some time.

It is possible do do this with the "3hand panel" also called "Popup panel"
http://www.krusader.org/handbook/using-krusader.html#popup_panel"
Here is a screenshot:
http://www.krusader.org/screenshotsfs.php?ordering=23&limit=0&max=23&page=1
the directory tree is visible in the right down corner.
You can resize it, if you like so see a bigger directory tree.

Well, that's not exactly the functionallity I was trying to descripe.
XNC and Total Commmanders branch dir feature allow one to see all files, and only files from current dir and all subdirs in one view.

This is useful if eg. you have a large dir with many subdirs and want to see which files takes up the most space, just branch the dir and sort by size.

Sorry i misunderstand your question. We call it briefview an it is a hot item on our todo (currently at number 2 on the feature vote) list :)
So maybe for the next release (1.80.0 or something) ... :)

Actually for me, there is olny one missing feature in krusader:

Short view, without atributtes (size, etc) but split in several columns in single panel.

Brief view is a planned and much requested feature. You might want to push it by casting a vote. ;-)

 The new app icon

Hi,

I really like the new version 1.70. Only the recently introduced app icon could be a bit more crystaline - what do you think?

I'm sure we could include a crystal variant of the icon. Someone has to create it though. ;)

The icon svgs are part of this package:
