Why is the Icecast Directory Service only listing 1000 Stations?

Application: Icecast.org Directory Service - Jul 18 2011
answered
Question:Overall, there are only 1000 Stations listed in the Directory Service, far less than there are Stations on xiph.org itself.

Why are certain stations missing?

Answer:The answer is: to limit the bandwidth on the xiph servers, the script from xiph that is creating the XML file stops after the 1000th stream, skipping the remaining seven-thousand-something streams (about 3000 stations) that are listed on dir.xiph.org.

One solution would be for the script to remove the stations that are twice or even more often in the list. This option is discussed at the moment.

The other option would be to implement a query-type of interaction with the server as it is common in several services in amarok. The downside of this would be that the Icecast Directory Service skript would need a complete rewrite.

Third option would be a kind of Amarok-skript that parses the dir.xiph.org webpage and interacts with it. This, I am not able to program myself so take that as an opportunity to write an Amarok-skript on your own.
