Graphical FTP Server

KDE4 Brainstorm

Score 75%
Downloads:  600
Submitted:  Jan 30 2006

Description:

I think it would be useful to have a GUI for ftp server such as pureftp, proftp or vsftp. All three are quite hard to configure for newbie and for people who are afraid of command lines.
I think a good model would be BulletProof which I used when I was on the dark side.
When I switch to Linux in october 2004, there was a gtk-based graphical ftp server for proftp (gproftpd) which was good but not perfect and which doesn\\\'t exist today.

I would be happy to see a qt-based GUI for ftp server in KDE4, it\\\'s the only thing i miss since i left Windows. I\\\'m not a programer (if I was, i would have done this already) but as the ftp server application already exist I hope this isn\\\'t too difficult.

BulletProof was bought by G6 which makes a wicked Windows FTP server :)

Questions about my theme or something in a screenshot of mine? Go here for the information:

Yes I know but I said a model.
I think, when you run Windows (I'm not but some people still are today) it is a very good ftp server and easy-to-use, very intuitive and clear.

There exists kcmpureftpd module for control center. Search it on google.
But yes, a simple and powerful GUI is needed :)

i'm trying this, it helps but it's far from perfect.
Moreover, i have Debian distribution and i had to make a .deb file with alien from the redhat pack and i'm not sure it works good.

 As an applet

Just like the "public file server" applet which is a HTTP applet, this ftp server should also be made as an applet. That would be awesome, I have had a use for that about a million times...

Top dollar idea.

Why not just extend kpf to make it serve FTP?

I expect kpf is the HTTP public file server applet I was talking about, right?

That would be a great idea, actually I must say I never understood why it was made http instead of ftp... do you know?

This doesn't need to wait for KDE 4.
