I like your idea about the scrollbar. It does take up some space on the screen, though -- which not everyone might like (some people like very minimalist desktops). Another way you could get the same effect would be to allow users to select the scrollbar like a button or right click it to bring up a textbox where they can type in what percent they want to go to. That would be a little like when you use Thunar or Nautilus and are in a folder and start typing, a text box will pop up and it will select the file/folder with that name. For users that want the textbox displayed, there could be an option for that when you select your gtk theme. Good idea -- why don't you submit it to http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com -- your idea could be put in the next release of Ubuntu!
