same backgroundcolor for same filetypes

Description:

Hello,

I saw this screenshot of the nao filemanger:

http://nao.linux.pl/images/screens/7.jpg

Same filetypes have same background color. Icons are nice to determine (visually) the filetype, but using background colors (as option, with icons) is better. What do you think?

It's also a nice method to group files in normal icon view.

It shouldn't be hard to implement...?

 Background color

I think it would be great if you select one file, all the other same filetypes change there color of the background. It's interactive with the user selection.

do you mean more or less something like this? http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/9854/13or0.png
(I'm not good in graphic :) )
I think that yellow is too intrusive... but what about if you select 2 different files? if they have the same extension ok, but if it's different, how should it works? selecting all the extensions of the 2 selected files? selecting nothing? or what? :)

Hmmm, nice mockup. This might very well be usefull. And I'd say use mimetype, not extension, to select which background to color...

Hello,

you mentioned also a nice idea. I like it.

But what I meant is the following: http://nao.linux.pl/images/screens/6.jpg

It looks ugly, but with some nice colors, e.g. http://techbase.kde.org/Image:Figure4.png (last column) it would be not bad...and it really supports the function of the mimetype...

At a GLANCE (just because of the background color) you can determine the filetype...without looking at the icon.

Bye

But i don't understand, the background color there is always, right ? isn't it too confusing ?
I've tried something under dolphin, these are the results:
