KDE4 Brainstorm

Score 65%
Downloads:  101
Submitted:  Jun 5 2007

Description:

i think konqueror, and maybe other apps in the kde base should have a quick search feature similar to that of firefox (control-f will open the quick search bar above the status bar and you can interactively search page)

would be a lot more useful for finding files in directories or maybe contacts in kopete etc. it is so much better than standard find that it could be implemented almost anywhere.

NOTE: ignore the download link, nothing important there.

Yep, I miss that feature, too.
The search of Firefox is so much better than Konqueror's one.
(Though I use and prefer Konqui, of course)

Konqueror already HAS this feature, from kde 3.0 (?)

i've actually accidentely tried this in windows. which sucks because it pulls up that stupid dog and i've got to wait.

I want it to just search the current directory for the particular filename, as i type, like in firefox. i hit ctrl-f, a little bar at the bottom shows up with a box that i'm typing in. it's green or red depending on if there's a match, and it highlights the first match in the file view window as i type. i can press f3 to go to the next match.

if they "already have it" - which i doubt, maybe they have something vaguely similiar - then make ctr-f invoke it. really, it's the process that the user goes through (interface) that's important, not the function. make it operate exactly the same as firefox. consistency is good. (esp. in UI's)

When it comes to user interface design, there's a saying, and it goes like this: "Don't make me think."

I don't want to think about whether I'm in firefox or konqueror when i'm searching for a string of text. I shouldn't have to. Don't make me.
